✨ What others are saying about my book, Simple Hospitality… ✨

I still can’t believe I get to share these words with the world. Every time someone tells me how this book has impacted their daily life, it reminds me WHY I wrote it in the first place. ✍️

Hospitality doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real. And your kind words remind me that small things—smiles, notes, gestures, open doors—still matter.

My monthly newsletter, Fun Mail No. 24 is headed to inboxes tomorrow at 6am! 💌

After taking a little break in July, I’m so happy to be back with you this month. This issue is a particularly personal one as I share a little about my mom’s Celebration of Life service and something I’ve been thinking about ever since: What do we carry forward from the people we love?

I’m also sharing some of our summer memories from North Carolina, a Simple Hospitality invitation especially for teachers as a new school year begins, 👩‍🏫🍎 a favorite summer recipe, and a very special full-circle moment with my book.

I hope you’ll make yourself a cup of tea and enjoy this month’s Fun Mail! 💌

“Great is Thy Faithfulness” was my Mom’s favorite song. The Celebration of Life service we had for her was a beautiful representation of her life. All 5 of her children honored her in the service with written or spoken word. I loved when the pastor told me the title of the message was: “Clothed in Kindness.” Because, you see…my Mom really was “clothed in kindness!!” 💖 I’m forever grateful that God chose Beverly Jeanne Moline as my Mom. The following day we had a private family burial for both of my parents. That was my Mom’s wishes. My Dad, Vernon Zorn Moline had passed away just 8 months earlier. She missed him so. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15. They are together for all Eternity with Christ. by @_jenniferboyd

Yesterday was Father’s Day, but it also was the 46th anniversary of our Wedding Day. We pledged our lives to one another and spoke our vows in front of God and our friends and family. Yesterday at breakfast I secretly brought two napkins that I had saved from our wedding reception and tucked them under our coffee cups. (Yes, I am intensely sentimental!) Later in the day, we enjoyed dinner out and afterward, sat outside by the lake and re-read from a notebook and sheets of old fashioned school lined paper, one and two line memories that when spoken, elicit memories that only we know. We had given each other this gift of memories for our 40th and hadn’t looked at it in years. Thankful for the life we have had and look forward to adding more memories with you. It’s my joy and privilege being Mrs. Scott Boyd for our 46 years of marriage!! ❤️👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏻‍♂️ by @_jenniferboyd

This weekend is Father’s Day and this will be my first one without my dad. I used to love to choose his Father’s Day card. It’s hard to walk down the card aisle and know I will never do that again for him. As we were planning his Celebration of life service, I came across a letter I had sent him. I told him what I most admired about him. Know where it was? Top drawer…right on top! :) My husband read it at the service, because I couldn’t. I loved that everyone heard those words. My letter was six pages long…and I could have gone on forever!! I can still picture my Dad reading his Bible each morning; first thing, in his robe, before coffee and breakfast. So faithful. I’ve heard it said, that a Bible that is falling apart usually shows a life that isn’t. I was blessed with a father that loved God and his family. I will miss him this Father’s Day. by @_jenniferboyd

☀️SUMMERTIME!!! We had the best time discovering a new part of the country last week…Park City, Utah!! Have you ever been? A friend of Scott’s through business, graciously offered us his beautiful home in the mountains and what a fun week we had!! Park City is best known as a ski town, but it sure is gorgeous in the summer, as well!! We tried to choose things the children would enjoy so we toured a dairy farm and snacked on farm fresh grilled cheese sandwiches & tomato basil soup right there at the farm store. We visited the Utah Olympic Park and saw the skiers who can practice year round thanks to landing their flips in a swimming pool!! Several kiddos saw snow for the first time, did the Alpine Slide and even went aboard a train out West. So much beauty and we are grateful for our week of absolutely ✨perfect weather!! by @_jenniferboyd

I knew the day would come…my first Mother’s Day without you. But, how can I be anything but thankful God gave me so many years with you. Forever my encourager and the one who was always so proud of me. The best moms make each of their children feel like they were always her favorite. But…I truly think I was, (right Jim, John, Joel and Jeana?!?) Haha!! 😉 Years ago I asked you, “what will I ever do without you?” You told me something and I wrote it down but I haven’t looked for that piece of paper yet. I am so grateful for the promise of heaven and that I will see you again, Mom. Thank you for how you faithfully loved Dad and all of us. You both lived your lives so well and I’m so thankful to have had a front row seat to how you both did that to the end. Happy 1st Heavenly Mother’s Day, Mom. I will love you forever. ❤️ by @_jenniferboyd

🌸 Happy May Day!

Did you know today, May 1st, is May Day? Do people still celebrate May Day?!?

I sure hope so because I have such fond memories as a little girl making a May Basket at school and “secretly” going across the street and putting it on the front door handle at “Mrs. Maybeth’s” house, ringing her doorbell and proudly running back home!! (And…YES!! Her name really WAS Mrs. Maybeth!!)

There’s something so charming about the tradition of leaving flowers on a doorstep, ringing the bell, and offering a small surprise of kindness.

I’ve always loved the reminder that hospitality doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful.

Sometimes it looks like:
💐 flowers from the yard
☕ coffee with a friend
🚪noticing a neighbor
🍋 lemonade on the porch
📞 checking in on someone

Small gestures often leave the biggest impression.

What’s one small kindness you could offer someone today?

My wonderful mom, Beverly Moline passed away just hours from her 93rd birthday, on March 29, 2026. She missed my dad so much, losing the love of her life just 8 months earlier. They were blessed with over 70 years of marriage. She was so beautiful because of her inward JOY and kindness. She loved people and they truly loved her back! She taught me how to be a wife and mom, and now a grandmother. “Great is Thy Faithfulness” was a favorite hymn of hers. One time when I asked her how I could pray for her, she said the words from the song: “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.” She and my dad weren’t just married…they were SO connected!! Looking through pictures, it was hard to find many that they weren’t together. They held hands ALL the time. She was friendly to everyone; she loved “to visit” wherever she went and enjoyed making new friends. She took her role as a wife and mother to 5 children seriously and did all things well. She was such a fun and happy mom. She loved when she finally became a grandmother and recently a great-grandmother. I have never heard an unkind word about she or my dad. They loved God and built their lives around Him. I’m forever grateful God chose her to be my mom. I will miss her forever but am so thankful for the life she had. ✝️🩷 by @_jenniferboyd
