“Heroes” by @_john138

“This monumental man taught me how to shake hands like an earthquake and I saw no faults.”

In this glass shattering ground breaking piece John vulnerably explores the relationship he had with his brother and how addiction has impacted them both. His truths hit hard and his words cut deep but it’s a truth you cannot run from. The reality he faces in this poem is as real as it gets.

“You can’t bloom in the mud like a lotus we need you to stay clean.”

Loving someone can be hard. Loving someone who refuses to love themselves can be harder. Always putting yourself in the position to beg the person you love to be better if not for everyone who loves them then at least for themselves. Sometimes flowers get stuck in the mud. I wonder If those flowers know what they can or could’ve truly blossomed into.

“I designed my own decline building my version of the next family burden.”

This is one of the most amazing lines I’ve ever heard. To think you’re running from something or someone but ultimately running towards. To know the devastation the path leads too but to take it anyway because you have to forge your own way through. You have to live your own life and make your own mistakes. Not everyone makes it back from the journey.

@_john138 thank you for sharing your art with us.

This month, we are diving into Character. Whether you’re resurrecting a villain from classic literature, stepping into the shoes of an original creation, or exploring a pop-culture icon,. Costumes, personas, and character-driven perspectives are the name of game this month.

What an experience @sofriedpoetry 2026 was.
Thank you all for the love, the conversations, the support and the inspiration🖤
Being away from my girls this year was tough and not having a team to lean on and distract my mind was something I didn’t realize held so much weight while being away.
Fortunately SoFried is a 2nd home and seeing my extended family is something that warms my heart every year.

On that note: YOUR BOY TOOK THE #2 SPOT🏅 💪🏻
This year wasnt just about me- getting to bring something back to my ladies made the temporary distance worth while. taken in Jersey City, New Jersey by @_john138
