Love Language - (5) 24x30” brass braille sculptures

Braille Translation:
Plaque 1: Some houses run on everything but hands - provided for but never held. Let this be the home you didn’t get to feel the first time.

Plaque 2: You learned to call this weakness but it wasn’t. it just wasn’t made available to you but here we are. Call it brotherhood, not romance.

Plaque 3: You know exactly what this used to feel like. Some days you don’t notice it’s gone - other days, it’s the only thing you notice.

Plaque 4: Something wired your body to read touch as danger instead of safety - that wasn’t your fault. This is what safety was supposed to feel like.

Plaque 5: You read the whole world with your hands & people still hesitate to see you. Whatever they’re afraid to give you, you just gave yourself.

“Please Touch” - 15x36” brass braille sculpture

The point of this work is to embrace conversations we typically hesitate to touch. The physical aspect of braille is used as a functional reminder to symbolize how we should interact with parts of life: touch, embrace and experience - the only ways to truly understand anything.

For The Blind is now a nonprofit, uniting the sighted and visually impaired around a shared truth - we are all ultimately navigating spaces we can’t fully see. Through hand-fabricated Braille sculpture and educational programming, we build fellowship by giving shape to the unseen. by @_jshotit
