Documenting my European adventures this semester 🤌
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Amalfi Coast, Capri, and Naples, Italy 🍋🌞🍕

Wow my last trip abroad!
Left for Amalfi coast Thursday night (via bus 😔) and arrived at 3am! Friday was our first day, we got breakfast by the beach near our hostel bungalow then went to a nearby beach to tan for the afternoon! Such a chill day that we very much needed! We had a beautiful ocean view from our bungalow and we sat out there for the sunset!

Saturday was our day trip to the island of Capri!
We woke up at 6am to get there by ferry and spent the morning walking around Capri Town which was so cute! We found a super boujee rooftop bar overlooking one of the prettiest views I’ve seen of abroad! We tanned in the afternoon again and then had a boat tour around the island

Today we left early to get on our bus to Naples! Got a few things from Zara there and just walked around. Very interesting city! Pizza was invented there so we of course had to get some! Definitely wasn’t the best pizza I’ve had in Italy but it was still good

Malta🦎🏖️🇲🇹
Second to last trip for me and @carolslifeabroad final trip while abroad! Such a fun meet up and the perfect spot for it. It was equally relaxing and fun!

I arrived Friday at noon and got a really delish gyro and tanned on the rocks for a few hours while I waited for Caroline to land! That night we got drinks at a super fun beach bar and they played great music! Then we got tacos at a fun Mexican place— it’s always funny eating Mexican abroad but this place was so good!

Saturday morning we got up and got a yum breakfast at a cool bagel place! Then we drove to another part of the island to tan for a bit before boarding our boat cruise— which was most definitely the highlight of the trip and one of the most fun abroad experiences!

Our guide, Heri, was super fun and we were on the boat with 8 girls who study in Rome and they had the best aux ever and were lots of fun. We made three stops, one to a beach with a bar, one to snorkel, and one to cove out and just jump in and swim! Also I caught a lizard thank goodness bc I’d been trying to in Italy for a while.
Sooo insanely fun

This morning we got a really good breakfast and coffee near our hotel and then we began our travels back to Florence & Barcelona! taken in Sliema, Malta by @_juliainitalia

Costigliole d’asti, Italy 🤌
I continued the journey of going to the land of my heritage in northern Italy where my grandmothers family is from!

Before I left for Italy, it was one of my goals to go to this very specific house that is in the countryside of northern Italy, outside of the small town Costigliole. It was the house that my great grandfather was born in and that his father built!

Many relatives on my grandmas side of the family have visited this house, so I’d grown up seeing pictures of it and knowing the history behind it. My mom and grandparents visited it in ‘95 so I had some pictures to go off of to find it and I somehow found it! Such a cool moment. And coolest of all was FaceTiming my grandma while I was there! She kept saying “I can’t believe my granddaughter is standing in front of the house my dad was born in!” Probs a wild moment for her

My great grandfather Vincent Segontino moved to America when he was a kid, where their family changed their last name to Secontine to sound less like Italian immigrants!
I found some ancestors graves here too which was cool!

The second pic is my grandma being held by her dad with some guys behind them idk who they are, but such a cool pic! And the last pic is my grandparents wedding, with the Secontine side of the fam in the pic!

Such a cool day trip! I love family history if you can’t tell taken in Costigliole, Piemonte, Italy by @_juliainitalia

Supino, Italy ❤️

Today I went to the land of my ancestry! 💁🏻‍♀️ Supino is where my grandfather Alberto Fracassa’s family is from. His parents and two older brothers moved to America from Supino in the late 1920s. So he and his brother Angelo were the first born Americans in their family!

The town is southeast of Rome and I was there for the afternoon and made sure to hit all the spots that I’ve seen in pictures growing up. My mom, aunt and grandma have all been to Supino also, so I made sure to recreate a couple of mom’s scenic photos.

I stopped at the cemetery and saw many ancestors graves from the Fracassa side and the Caprara side (my great grandmother) All the graves were above ground so that was kinda cool

I’ve always been proud of my Italian heritage and it stems from my grandfather coming from an Italian speaking household with strong ties to the small community of Supino!
Everyone was so nice to me there even though no one spoke a lick of English! It was like any other friendly small town, saying “ciao” as you pass by someone, and everyone knew one another by name around the town. I think they all were so confused why I was there, but I just had to mention “my family is the Fracassa’s” and they knew who I was talking about. There were old Italian guys everywhere and they all reminded me of papa!

Such a speacial day being able to see the town my family comes from, especially after losing papa in September. Def felt him smiling down on me today!❤️‍🩹🇮🇹

Also got a chiamella (Italian bagel) from a little bakery I walked by! Sooo yum. Shoutout fracassa cousins! taken in Supino (FR) Italia by @_juliainitalia

Crema, Italy (& other northern Italy towns) 🏡🇮🇹

@sami.rase & I made our way north to Crema Saturday for an overnight trip! Crema and surrounding areas is where our favorite movie “call me by your name” was filmed. The director chose Crema to be the filming place because of the small town’s authentic Italian feel, and we got exactly that out of Crema! We were the only tourists, and the people were so kind to us. It was the most submerged in Italy I’ve felt so for. It was a great get away from the recent boom of tourism in Florence!

After we arrived, we biked a total of 24 miles around northern Italy to hit all the spots of the movie (sat in the same place as timmothee chalamet)
It was absolutely stunning and the perfect weather. We also realized we came the perfect weekend bc there was a salami festival happening all weekend. So we walked around the city center and tried sooo much salami. There was also randomly a rave happening Saturday night which was funny.

Best gelato I’ve had so far was here too. Wow just wow. Went back twice!

Crema is an absolute gem and northern Italy in general is my favorite region!

Corfu, Greece 🇬🇷

I feel like I say this every post, but WOW NEW FAVORITE PLACE UNLOCKED! 🔓

I realized i didn’t have class this Monday and Tuesday, so I looked to see where the cheapest flight out of Italy was to. And Greece surprisingly was it!
It was not crowded at all and perfect weather!

We got in late Monday, so Tuesday was our full day there.
We got up and went to a Creperie and I got a feta and spinach crepe and it was so delicious.
We spent most of the day at Paleokastritsa, a town on the island. We tanned and cliff jumped at a beautiful private cove called La Grotta. So unbelievably beautiful the water was freezing tho. Also had the best gyro of my life and bussss tzatziki and pita.

We went back to Corfu Town where we stayed and walked around the cute beach town the rest of the night. We got dinner at a wonderful local place and i got Souvlaki and Syd got sea bass and both were sooo good.
Greek is my favorite type of food and it did not disappoint!

Cliff jumping is cool n all but honestly highlight of the trip was the Greek yogurt froyo. Wow just wow. Got it twice bc it was so good. I had been missing froyo and this was even better bc it was plain Greek yogurt and you add fruit and honey on it so it was healthier and sounds weird but trust it was bus

After a week of travel, heading back to Flo! taken in Corfu Greece by @_juliainitalia

Dolomites (and a bit of Venice too)
Wowwww the Dolomites were the most stunning place I’ve ever seen. The pictures don’t even do it justice.

Got to Venice yesterday and walked around the beautiful island all day! I went here earlier this semester and it doesn’t get old it’s one of my favorite places I’ve been. We stayed in Venice mainly for our day trip to the Dolomites that we did today!

We met our guide this morning and drive north for a couple hours. We made stops at different lakes in the mountains and the pics speak for themselves. The Italian alps have small mountain towns sprinkled around that we stopped at. All the architecture looks like classic Austrian architecture which was so cool. Like the Dolomites are a cross between Austria and Italy id say.
Stopped in cortina too! Where the Olympics were and they still had a lot of the Olympic decor up. Super boujee and beautiful town!
Today was one of the coolest days!

Roma & Vatican City! Featuring my dear friend @_sydneywells who is with me this whole week!
We arrived in Rome on Thursday evening! Had the best time sight seeing and had an amazing dinner (we went back the next night bc the tiramisu was that good)

On Good Friday we went to Vatican City for a guided tour in the morning. We went into St. Peter’s basilica which was amazing. Saw Michelangelo’s masterpiece “Pietà” of Mary holding Jesus which is so cool bc i remember learning about that in high school. We also went to the papal tombs underground of the basilica. 92 popes are buried there, including St. Peter’s remains. There was also a buncha popes that had wax over them and you could see their bodies. Many pope bodies there!

Also climbed a whopping 500+ stairs to the top of the dome of the basilica which is the highest point in Rome it was insane.

Friday afternoon we went to Santa Scala— the stairs that Jesus walked up and down before his death that were brought to Rome from Jerusalem. Everyone walks up the steps on their knees and says a prayer on each step. Such an amazing thing to witness on Good Friday.

Friday night we saw the Pope! (Slide 9 high quality pic of Papa Leo himself) We waited for 4 hours outside the colosseum and the pope carried the cross for the stations of the cross that begins inside the colosseum and ends outside of it. Thousands and thousands of people were there

Weekending around Italia!
Friday me & Josie went to a town in between Florence and Pisa called Lucca for a day trip! Super cool and quiet town and a great break from the spring crowds of Florence. There’s a tower there with oak trees growing out of it that we hiked up!

Saturday morning I left for Verona for an overnight trip that was included with my abroad program so it was epic having a free trip 🔥
We did a walking tour of Verona and spent the rest of the time finding the best spritz deal in the city center! Beautiful and classy city. Definitely a romantic city too bc it’s where Romeo & Juliette was based in! So we also got to see both characters houses from the story.

We ended Saturday night at a town on Lake Garda where we spent the rest of the weekend! Sooo unbelievably beautiful! The pictures don’t do the view any justice! We strolled around the cute town and got dinner Saturday night. Today we went to a different town on lake garda for a boat tour which was awesome! We walked around that town and I saw the biggest lemons ever they were massive and then I got the best pasta I’ve had in Italy at this place we came across off the main road!

Ended the day at the stunning Duomo for Palm Sunday mass! 🌿 by @_juliainitalia

Family was in town the past week and we had the best time!
I showed them all my favorite spots in Florence for the first three days. We also did a day tour of Tuscany and went to Siena and San Gimignano for a wine tour which was a very cool experience. I love gaining knowledge about wine! Also tried the famous Florentine steak for the first time here and it was insaneeee

We then went to Ireland on St. Patty’s day! The streets were insane you could barely move for blocks— so very not true that people don’t celebrate St Pattys in Ireland!
We were in Galway for most of the time and a guy named Mick drove us around the western Ireland countryside and it was absolutely stunning. We also got to see where my dad’s side of the family lived in “Ballyconneely”. It was cool seeing how many Connealy name variations there were in the region!
Ate lots of fish and chips and drank many Guinnesses! They taste a lot better in Ireland!
Also saw Kennedy in Dublin on our last night and ended the trip strong with a bar crawl!

On a more somber note, my grandmother Donnie Connealy passed away while we were in Ireland. One thing about her is how proud she was of her Irish heritage— they loved everything Irish and made sure our Irish roots were known in the family. We could feel my grandparents smiling down on us as we experienced their favorite place in the world! We found the spot they took the picture on the 16th slide and recreated it. It was a bittersweet time with the loss, but I’m leaving Ireland more proud of my Irish heritage than ever❤️‍🩹☘️ taken in Galway, Ireland by @_juliainitalia

Had the greatest week with my good buds @ivyleuck & @alivia_narke who traveled across the pond to visit.

Me and Alivia went to Siena for a superb wine tour and tasting/dinner at a small winery. It ended up being private bc no other groups came that day! There were many cats around the winery which you know I loved! Learned so much and expanded my palate of wine.

Ivy got in the next day and it was so fun showing them around my abroad city! Then we went to Cinque Terre (5 coastal towns on the western coast of Italy) for Tuesday and Wednesday. Rained the whole day Tuesday but we made the most of it. Wednesday was beautifullll! My favorite of the 5 cities was probably Manarola! Stunning colorful building and the water was the clearest I’d ever seen.

Now my fam is in town for the next week! taken in Cinque Terre, Italy by @_juliainitalia

WOOHOO Alivia in Italia!
My friend Alivia studied in Bologna two years ago and she showed me around her city yesterday for her first full day here in Italy!

We started the day with a hike to San Luca which was a church on top of a beautiful look out point over the city and surrounding areas. It was an hour and a half hike from the city center but def worth the view!

Food here was amazing! We got apretivo and spritzes at a wonderful place on our way down from the hike. We checked out the city center and the basilica that is unfinished there. I got to FaceTime my dear friends @_miadougherty_ and @lucy.bloomingdale who also studied in Bologna last spring— they were ecstatic to see me in their “home city”! Mia may have shed tears.

Then we had the best gelato of my life. Wow it left me speechless and Alivias hype was very on point. We got a Guinness at the Irish pub that all the abroad students love! I really like Guinness these days.
Ended the day with dinner after dessert at Va Mo La— a rec from Mia and Lucy. We LOVED our traditional bologna dishes, green lasagna and tagliatelle bolognese.

Wine tasting in Siena today! Waiting for Ivy to arrive tomorrow! by @_juliainitalia
