I just delivered some new paintings to Dan Addington at Addington Gallery in Chicago. This painting is titled “Cocoi Heron” and it is 48x36, oil on panel. It is one of a new series that I am working on of large birds. In this series, I’m combining and intertwining the geometric abstraction that has been present in recent work with a more naturalistic approach to the bird in its environment. It is titled “Cocoi Heron” because that is the type of bird that I saw and photographed in the Peru Amazon a few years ago.

I posted several “in process” photos of this painting, which may have caused confusion. This is a photo of the finished painting. I will be delivering it to Addington Gallery in Chicago this week. I have a particular love for this piece. Arranging Thought is the title. It is 40x40, oil on panel. Happy holidays to all! #contemporarypainting #contemporaryart by @_juliakatz

Wonderful studio visit this week from the great organization Art Encounter which is based in Evanston, IL. About 40 people came to the studio to see and talk about my work and the work of my studio-mate Joan Holleb. It was a really enjoyable day. We loved hearing the insights of these smart folks. Thank you! #art.encounter #joanholleb by @_juliakatz

New work underway…
This painting is 40x40, is oil on panel. Building on the recent series, early in the process. Feeling more comfortable with the visual vocabulary that I’ve been developing. Uncertain where it will take me….

Sing the Tune 48x60 oil on panel. A while back I posted an image of this painting at an earlier stage. It’s complete now and will be delivered to Addington Gallery in Chicago this week. It’s a large painting and part of a series of four that are keeping me focused on hope for the future. I’m looking forward to getting started on new work that will grow upon this approach and theme. #contemporarypaintings #contemporaryart #organicshapes #geometricshapes #colorandpattern #singthetune by @_juliakatz
