Recently, my husband, friends and I took a little weekend road trip from Istanbul to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, for a change of scenery and some exploring! ❤️🚗

Just 4–5 hours away by car, Bulgaria’s second-largest city turned out to be such a lovely surprise. We wandered through the charming Old Town, visited the Regional Ethnographic Museum to get a glimpse into Bulgarian culture and traditions, explored the ancient fortress ruins of Nebet Tepe, and strolled along Knyaz Alexander Street, with its shops, cafés and lively atmosphere. And of course, we made plenty of time for delicious food! 😋🏛️☕

A lovely mix of history, culture, charming streets and great food — Plovdiv was such a fun little weekend getaway! ✨

🇹🇷 I’ve lived in Istanbul for many years, and somehow, this city STILL manages to surprise me! Just when I think I’ve figured it out, Istanbul comes up with something new. 😂✨

Think you know Istanbul? Let’s see if you know the basics! 👀🙃

🇹🇷 Plot twist: Istanbul isn’t the capital of Türkiye! That would be Ankara. Yes, the country’s most famous city isn’t its capital!

🌍 One city, two continents. Where else can you have one foot in Europe and the other in Asia without even leaving the city?

👑 Talk about a history! Istanbul was the capital of three mighty empires: Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman. Casual, right? 😂

🏛️ It’s had quite the identity crisis. Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul… this city has gone by several names throughout its long history!

🌊 That beautiful water isn’t just for the views. The Strait of Bosphorus connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara, with ferries, fishing boats, and massive ships passing through every day.

🏛️ There’s a whole hidden world underground. The Basilica Cistern is an enormous underground reservoir supported by 336 columns. Imagine having THAT beneath your feet while walking around the city!

🛍️ Retail therapy, but make it historic. The Grand Bazaar dates back to the 15th century. Some shopping destinations really do stand the test of time!

🚗 And then… there’s Istanbul traffic. You leave thinking you’ll be there in 20 minutes. Istanbul has other plans. 😂🚦

💜Beautiful, chaotic, historic, exhausting, and endlessly fascinating — Istanbul is truly one of a kind. It may not be perfect, but it’s home. 🇹🇷✨

Tourists come to Türkiye for its history, architecture, and famous landmarks, but there’s a whole other side of the country worth experiencing. 🇹🇷✨

I spent the evening at Harbiye Open-Air Theatre, watching Turkish music legend Levent Yüksel perform under the stars. 🎤🎶 And one thing about Türkiye — once the music starts, sitting quietly is no longer an option! Everyone sings along, dances, and knows every word. 😂❤️‍🔥

This is Türkiye beyond the tourist attractions — and this is what it looks like!

Туристы приезжают в Турцию ради её истории, архитектуры и знаменитых достопримечательностей, но у этой страны есть и другая сторона, которую обязательно стоит увидеть. 🇹🇷✨

Я провела вечер в театре под открытым небом Harbiye, слушая выступление легенды турецкой музыки Левента Юкселя под звёздным небом. 🎤🎶 И знаете, что особенного в Турции? Как только начинается музыка, спокойно сидеть уже никто не собирается! Все подпевают, танцуют и знают каждое слово. 😂❤️‍🔥

Basketball in Türkiye just hits differently. 🏀🇹🇷

I’ve been to basketball games in the U.S., but I love how passionate Turkish fans are — the chants, the energy, and the way everyone gets behind their team make the whole experience feel like more than just a game. 💛💙

If you’re in Istanbul and love basketball, definitely add a game to your list of things to experience!

Я была на баскетбольных матчах в США, но мне очень нравится, насколько здесь болельщики любят и поддерживают свои команды. Кричалки, энергия и атмосфера превращают матч во что-то гораздо большее, чем просто игру. 💛💙

Did you know autumn has a completely different feel in Istanbul? 🍂

The intense summer heat starts to fade, the air gets a little crisper, and the parks and forests become perfect for long walks again. 🌿

One of the things I love about autumn here is that it doesn’t arrive all at once. Some days still feel like summer, while others give you that first little hint of the season changing.

Not quite summer. Not quite winter. Just Istanbul in autumn. 🧡🍁

Летняя жара постепенно отступает, воздух становится немного свежее, а парки и леса снова идеально подходят для долгих прогулок. 🌿

Мне особенно нравится, что осень здесь не приходит в один день. Некоторые дни всё ещё ощущаются как лето, а в другие уже появляется первый намёк на смену сезона.

Once we arrived in Samos, the beach-hopping began… 🏝️☀️

Okay, so this is how our Samos trip started…

A short drive from Istanbul to İzmir, with some seriously scenic views along the way 🚗🌿
Then a 1.5-hour ferry ride across the Aegean ⛴️🌊
And just like that… we were in Samos 🇬🇷🤍☀️🌴
