Ruger unexpectedly crossed the rainbow bridge last night. While my heart is shattered and I struggle with the right words to say, the best I can come up with is wow, he was one hell of a dog, and I couldn’t ask for more. This boy helped me through the darkest times in my life. I was told I was insane for getting a puppy, after a tragic loss of my first Dane, and while 7 months pregnant and for a while there I thought I was too, but I’m so glad I did. I got to watch my two boys grow together, and watch the bond they built until Maddie came along and he loved her just the same. 8 beautiful years he lived. And he was loved by everyone who met him. I will forever miss those big brown eyes staring up at me, the long grunts when I rubbed his ears, his scent and love bombing him with kisses.

I had to rehome him a few years ago due to my life being flipped upside down, and knowing he deserved the best remainder of his life, I knew that’s what would be best for him. This was never a decision I took lightly and it was the most difficult choice I have ever had to make to this day. However, I chose the most perfect family to take him, and knowing he was safe and loved made me always feel so much better about it. They were always so gracious and allowed me to take him for weekends, vacations, etc anytime I wanted. When I did show up, he knew exactly who I was and would go insane with excitement, he never forgot. I got updates on all his vet appointments and sometimes just about how much kicked in his sleep the night before. Ruger fit so perfectly into their lives and I cannot thank them enough for giving him the life he deserved. I was able to be there for them, as they also were for me in his last moments and for that I’m eternally grateful. Please keep my kids and I, as well as the Guilmette family in your prayers as we mend our hearts from the loss of our family member.
