I’ve always hated running. I’ve never considered myself a runner and I never thought I’d ever be able to call myself one.

For years, my sister tried to convince me to run a marathon, but I always said, “That’s just not for me.”

Then last year, Sally and Brendan finally got me to sign up.

What I didn’t realize was how mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging this journey would be. From pushing new distances every week to working through injuries that made me question if I’d even make it to the start line, there were moments I truly didn’t know if I could finish this.

I’m someone who, once I set my mind to something, I do it. But this was different. I could never have done it without my sister Sally, my boyfriend Brendan, and all my friends.

This was a challenge I didn’t take on alone.
@skyler_johns0n and @sabrinagrib ran countless miles beside me so I never had to face those long runs by myself.
@mackenziemchandler dropped me off at new routes so I wouldn’t have to run the same path over and over again and always made sure to hype me up.
My sister @sally_abel coached me through every setback, talking me through my injuries and reminding me that healing doesn’t mean stopping.
@madiisaak , training for her first marathon with a similar injury, was someone I could lean on. We understood each other’s struggles.
And @brendanbury , from running beside me on those insanely long runs to holding me when I cried after getting hurt, believed in me every single step of the way even when I didn’t believe in myself.

This marathon wasn’t just for me. It was for everyone who helped me get there. Thank you Sally, Brendan, Sky, Sabrina, Mac, and Madi I couldn’t have done it without you.

I’m so proud of myself for pushing through, for not giving up, and for proving that I can do anything I set my mind to. After running this marathon, I think I can finally say it. I am a runner.
