Oh wow! i found a poetry book in the grass at prospect park. it’s called Last Conversations and you should totally buy it. 😜

in all seriousness, writing this has been such a labor of love and grief, and everything in between. i look back now and think that maybe every single loss, redirection, healing modality, and retreat was just preparing me to create enough space to channel my unique expression. and how important it is to acknowledge that we all have an ability to tell our story and transmute our experiences 💜. i am so so grateful for this awareness & privilege. thank you to my dear friend @pienso_prep for her beautiful illustrations, and the friends & family who held my heart over the last year as i wrote this (and read my many poems). a big thank you to the writers i’ve learned from over the last two years on retreat. @elizabeth_gilbert_writer @cherylstrayed

i will be reading some poems at lofty pigeon next week. my book release party is at Liz’s book bar in June, and will be at the poetry festival on gov island in July. DM me if you’re interested in coming to any of them. 💜

proof of life dump — this winter has felt so long, but also strangely lovely. i moved into a new home, did some traveling to seattle, lotza writing, my grandma turned 92!, saw friends&fam, went to saunas, and leaned on my medicine to get through: music, milo, and meditation 🤍 oh, and i started yoga teacher training, so i’m basically always sleepy! by @_kellypowers

2025 🤍 was a whirlwind but the theme I keep returning to is:

I get to.

I’ve seen the people I love have their last good day and take their last breath. And as my mama always said, life’s a trip and it’s all over in a blip.

So instead of framing this year by what broke or what ended, I’m holding it with love for what I got to experience.

1. i traveled all over for work and play, from Seattle to Denver, SF, and Paris etc
2. i went on a writing retreat with my favorite author, submitted work to my first writing contest, and just finished writing my first poetry book.
3. i connected with family and spent a lot of time with my grandma.
4. i fell back in love with movement: yoga, pilates and dance.
5. i was in love & i got to feel heart break. (so fun)
6. i celebrated the big stuff with friends
7. i spent another year w my boy milo. 🐶

In 2025, I got to experience the full spectrum of being human. 💜 looking forward to sweeter times in 2026. by @_kellypowers

Rest in Peace to my grandpa, William Powers— an inspiring father, grandfather, poet, musician, dancer, playwright, anthropologist, and professor. A true legend. He grew up in St. Louis as the son of dancers—his mom a Rockette and his dad the art director of the Rockettes. At 17, he met my grandma in artist housing in Hell’s Kitchen, and together they performed on Broadway, wrote books, and created a home full of art and culture. (Picture 2 is them performing together.) Grandpa was also part of the 50’s singing group The Four Esquires and played congas in the NYC music scene. Later in life, he earned his doctorate in cultural anthropology. He was a playwright, a member of the Lion’s Theatre on Broadway, and wrote books on the Oglala Sioux, deeply influenced by his summers spent on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He introduced us to Lakota culture and took us to the reservation as kids. Grandpa and grandma shared a deep love for the jazz scene and Tennessee Williams in New Orleans and lived there half of the year for many years. As a human, he was always driven by curiosity and kindness. He lived with unparalleled creativity and deep inquiry into what it means to be alive. He was enamored by language as a means of expression. Our talks were so special and I’m forever grateful to have known him. Say hi to Mom and the others up there. ♥️ by @_kellypowers
