A 5,000-year-old ritual, still alive in the Himalayas… and somehow, I found myself right in the middle of it. . . . . . . #raulanefestival #raulane #kinnaur #ngtindia #fujifilmxindia [DevBhoomi, Indian Festival, Kalpa, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, Incredible Himachal, Untold Stories, Travel Filmmaker, Hidden Stories, Fujifilm xm5, Ruhmusafirhomestay] by @_kinchitpaglate_
For a few days every year, a small village in the mountains believes that humans and spirits share the same space. This is Raulane, a 5,000-year-old ritual from Kalpa, Kinnaur. Two men become Raula and Raulane. The groom and the bride. Their faces hidden behind masks, their identities dissolved in layers of traditional Kinnauri attire. In that moment, they are no longer just people… they become the bridge between the human world and the world of the Saunis — the celestial fairies believed to protect the valley through the harsh winter. Through masked dances, rhythmic drums, and silent rituals, the village gathers to say thank you. Thank you for guarding their homes. Thank you for protecting their livestock. Thank you for surviving another Himalayan winter. And as spring quietly arrives in the valley, the fairies are believed to leave for the higher peaks. Raulane is not a show. Not a performance. It’s a living tradition, a reminder that in the Himalayas, nature, spirits, and people have always shared the same story. 📍Kalpa, Kinnaur — Himachal Pradesh 📅 6 March 2026 Shot with Fuji Xm-5 @fujifilmxindia [Raulane Festival, Kalpa, Himachal Pradesh Kinnaur Valley, Sangla Holi, Sangla, Himalayas, Offbeat, Festival of India, Incredible India, Fairies Festival, Mountain, Mountain Life, Fuji Xm-5, Cinematic Tone] by @_kinchitpaglate_
