Part 69: trying an Ecuadorian food truck in Toronto. I’m always looking for the best Latin American restaurants in Toronto and I’m telling you guys all the best food is NORTH OF BLOOR.

@593ecuadoriancuisine has only been around for 9 months but has quickly become one of the city’s most popular and delicious ecuadorian meals. Their menu is tight and concise, allowing them to really focus on making each dish as authentic as possible. I was surprised by some of the lengths they go through to ensure the flavours are as close to back home as possible - going as far as sourcing ecuadorian ingredients from American suppliers.

The food was delicious and the Jenny’s passion is contagious. This is 100% a must try and easily one of the top ecuadorian food spots in Toronto. 🇪🇨

Part 33: In this episode of North of Bloor Food Reviews™️, I’m at the iconic @plazalatina.to at Finch & Milvan. Growing up, we used to call this place “The People”. I had no idea it was called plaza Latina until later and when I asked my dad why he lied and told us it was called the people, he said it’s because it’s where the real people go to eat 🤣. I love this place - it’s special to me and really important to the Latino community in Toronto. I’ll be back to make many more videos here. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @_krsc

Every so often I have an experience that completely re-ignites my love for food, dining, and restaurants. I had the pleasure of attending the soft opening for @antyliatoronto and while I had no clue what to expect, it blew me away. This was easily one of the best meals of the year for me. Everything from the space, to the music, food, service, and vibe seems to have been carefully thought out to be the perfect place to tell a new story of what Latin American cuisine can be, and I have no doubt this restaurant will be on every list, blog, and article to do with food in this city because it was that good and that unique. Shoutout to chefs @aldo.camarena.jimenez and @ashleyymckay & team for the hospitality. Congrats on your opening day! Can’t wait to come back. taken in Toronto, Ontario by @_krsc

If we’re talking pupusa heavyweights in this city, @cuscatlan_latin_american is undoubtedly in that conversation. I don’t think they get enough love but the real real ones know about this one ☝️🫶 taken in Toronto, Ontario by @_krsc

A definitive guide to every Ecuadorian restaurant in Toronto in no particular order 🇪🇨

La Morena is my favourite overall spot. They’re a family owned spot with a small rotating menu specializing in regional Ecuadorian cuisine. The empanadas were their claim to fame but their daily specials and portion sizes are incredible. What to order: Sancocho de Res, Encebollado, Empanadas de Viento, Argentinian beef empanadas, tres leches cake.

Doña Julia is from the Andean region of Ecuador so naturally she has some of the best Andean dishes in the GTA. People travel from all over for her hornado (pictured) but she also makes a lot dishes that you can’t find anywhere else. What to order: Hornado, Empanadas de Carne, Yaguarlocro, Caldo de Salchicha (when they have it).

The most classic spot on this list. Around for 40 years and still family owned & operated. What to order: Churrasco, empanadas de queso, empanadas de carne, carne apanado, avena/quaker smoothie, menestra.

593 Ecuadorian Food Truck: came on the scene recently and has a lot of people in the city saying they make the best food. The owners are the nicest people ever! Their menu is super tight so they make everything fresh but go early because they sell out quickly on weekends. What to order: Pescado Frito, carne en palito, churrasco, encebollado, ceviche mixto. Try some of their rotating juices too!

La Chuperia: what started off as a Mexican restaurant recently added one of the toughest Ecuadorian menus in the city. Huge portions, all cooked by an Ecuadorian lady in the kitchen. Definitely my sleeper pick for Ecuadorian food closer to downtown. What to order: caldo de bola, caldo de pata, empanadas de queso, seco de pollo, churrasco.

Las Fronteras, located at Weston & Finch. Another classic spot operating for 20% years. I used to go here a lot when I lived in the area. Still my favourite menestra in the city. The meat they use for this dish sets them apart. What to order: menestra & carne asada, empanadas de verde, empanadas de carne, chaulafán.

Comedor Popular: an OG plaza Latina staple. 100% my value pick on this list. On the weekends they offer a typical ecuadorian “almuerzo” which includes a soup, ma taken in Toronto, Ontario by @_krsc

This home-based Ecuadorian restaurant sells out every week.

it might be easier to walk into an Ossington restaurant at 7:30pm on a Saturday than to get a spot at this small home based Ecuadorian eatery on a Sunday.

@encebolladoandmax reminds me of a traditional picantería that you see on every corner of coastal cities and towns in Ecuador serving classic and hearty breakfast dishes like encebollado, ceviche, and guatita, sometimes as early as 5:00am. I think this day we showed up around 9 and they were in full swing. Catch them as early as 8 SUNDAYS ONLY!

This is a true if you know you know Ecuadorian spot. I almost feel bad shining a light on it but I honestly think everyone needs to try Maria’s food and enjoy some of @carloskikofernandez warm ecuadorian hospitality 😝 taken in Toronto, Ontario by @_krsc
