Release day for W133004 (@w133.records) featuring my latest track, Cursive on A2. The rest of this EP by @monibi_music @pinolinoo @__samwho__ @siumata and sick artwork by @freya_gerz

Cursive is a tripped-out, bassline heavy track with a few off-kilter, spooky synths in the mix.

The story behind this one goes back to childhood — learning cursive handwriting as part of the 3rd grade curriculum in the midwest in the 90s was one of the first moments I was faced with the hypocrisy of the world. I never enjoyed cursive, an archaic writing system — it seemed so irrelevant. I complained to my teachers about having to learn it and they would answer me with, “It’s actually not important to learn it right now, but in 4th grade you’re really going to need it.” Next year, the 4th grade teacher said the same thing about how important it was for the 5th grade, and my 5th grade teacher deflected once again, claiming it would be critical in middle school. But by the time I actually arrived in middle school, no one ever spoke of cursive again. Deep betrayal.

What I find irksome about cursive is that all the letters basically look the same, and the fact that you’re never picking up your pencil from the paper feels like a gimmick. But the form of a techno track is essentially that — the same thing repeated every 8, 16, 32 bars, yet the subtle variations keep you engaged and following a story. While listening to music, your ear is drawn to a single element at a time, and follows that line as it weaves between the synth, bass, pad, and drums. A synth can be wildly scribbly, while the beat continues relentlessly forward, never leaving the page.

Had so much fun with the Endzeit shows in Europe! A few pics & memories before I forget~

Paris (@fvtvr_paris): @donato_dozzy (almost) all night long. Proper @__endzeit install, done in under 3 hours by our mini build team + volunteers, and visuals by @by_subset. Plus Paris DJ debut with @___torsion 💯

Puglia (@domusrecordings): Mike Parker and Dino Sabatini on the beach, an unlikely but killer combo. Jumping in the Mediterranean after a long battle in the sun to hang up parachutes without walls or a ceiling. Best hospitality on earth, if you get the chance to hang out with @domusrecordings do not miss it!

Berlin (@ohmberlin): Mike Parker + Convextion live, and DJing b2b @ackermanlily for the first time in 7 years. Bought a bunch of new EU hardware to comply with German rigging requirements for @by_subset’s projector. A dream after 10 years of coming to OHM <3

Rome (@themagickbar): Returning to the lovely Magick Bar this year with all the Endzeit residents, plus a conversation with @neelrome about (re)building the underground in the Bay Area. Rome has worked itself into my regular rotation in the last year and I’m not mad.

Concluding Endzeit’s summer tour away from home: this Friday, July 24th, we join @neelrome for Neel Invites, his annual summer series at @magickbar

Residents @_kudeki, @___torsion and @rmnalive will play alongside @neelrome, one of Endzeit’s closest friends and most frequent collaborators 🖤

Early in the evening, a conversation about reigniting underground club culture in the US, building inclusive spaces sustainably, and the economics of nightlife in a post-streaming world.

Neel invites Endzeit
Neel returns to Magick Bar, bringing with him @__endzeit , a nonprofit foundation from the San Francisco Bay Area turning forgotten industrial spaces into laboratories of sound. Three years, 25 events, 20.000+ attendees, from San Francisco to Detroit, New York, Europe. Hosted by Neel, longtime collaborator sharing a deep connection with the collective’s vision and team.

This month marks exactly 10 years since I first set foot in a Berlin techno club (3rd photo is from that first trip) 🖤 I met @ackermanlily right around the same time, before she moved from the Bay Area to Berlin.

Lily has the honor of being the first DJ I ever officially booked, back in 2017 for the first edition of Noctuary. Tomorrow night will be our first b2b together since 2019, and we have the honor of closing the night from 4-6am at @ohmberlin, after the incredible @mike_parker_geophone, Convextion, and endzeit residents @___torsion & @rmnalive

All the memories and feelings this night brings up are too elaborate to get into here, but it will be a special @__endzeit
