The 1970s were a turning point for San Francisco’s Japantown. Our community stood up against gentrification, displacement, and the erasure of our cultural heritage, finding strength in deep solidarity with other communities of color.

Decades later, the battlefield looks different, but the fight remains exactly the same. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿✊🏼

This year’s official 52nd Annual Nihonmachi Street Fair t-shirt design is a tribute to that unbreakable spirit. Featuring the iconic Peace Pagoda and the Golden Gate Bridge, this design honors the roots of our activism and reminds us that the Street Fair has always been—and will always be—a beacon for unity and cultural preservation.

This isn’t just nostalgia. It’s a reminder that the legacy continues through all of us.

The design was a collaborative work by @_kuma_ink_ @nate1design @ghorikiridesign

Big thank you to everyone who reached out during that stressful morning. We truly appreciate the support from our friends, neighbors, and the Japantown community. It’s hard to focus on the bad when we’re surrounded by so much encouragement.

As a small business, things like this happen, but we can’t let it keep us down. We strive to be a neighborhood art and gift store, and our journey is far from over.
