A space for cultural clash and resistance, celebrating migrant & diasporas of the Global South through parties, music, art, and food.

La Minga, comes from the quechua language mink’a and it’s a reunion of friends, neighbours to do collective work based on solidarity. This practice runs all across indigenous cultures of South America, from before colonisation and survives until these days.

We are inspired by La Minga to build collaboration amongst migrants, diasporas & allies braided with celebration and respect for culture.

Even though we find ourselves in Eora Country (Sydney), a multicultural city, people feel isolated. We want to build spaces where creatives, cookers, dj, artists, dancers and whoever miss those connections are able to find others.

Keen on collaborating? Contact us by dm or at lamingacooperative@gmail.com

With Love: Gus & Maria José

Thanks for joining our workshop Boots on the Ground: resistant entrepreneurships.

Being a creative means being very vulnerable, even more when it comes to match your self expression with financial sustainability. We talked about intention and clearing our why’s and for whom.

See you on the next date and at the open meet up on Sun 18 October!

Workshop: Boots on the Ground – Resistant Entrepreneurship

This workshop is for migrant and diasporic creatives from the Global South who want to start or strengthen their creative practice as a business.

Over 3 sessions, you’ll gain practical tools to shape your creative project, understand your audience, plan your work, and build a more sustainable way to make a living from your creativity.

Many workshops focus on how to start and grow a business, but they don’t always reflect the realities and challenges migrants and diasporas face.

The workshop will be led by Natalia García-Fuentes, a USYD researcher exploring alternative ways of doing business, with a focus on Latin American approaches that challenge traditional economic models.

Through ideas such as autogestión and cooperativism, the workshop will help us think about how to structure work, build sustainable practices, and create livelihoods based on collaboration and community. Let’s get our creative projects moving!

🥾WHEN: Tuesday 29 September, 6-9 pm
🥾WHERE: Frontyard Projects, 228 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville NSW 2204

Meet our DJs for Cariñito - House of Cumbia next Sunday 12 July 💕

@mr.cuchuco carries the vibrant legacy of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, passed down from his father. His sets are a vivid tribute to the rhythms and sounds that shaped his upbringing: a mix of street culture, family gatherings, and crate-digging sessions that echo through his 33 and 45 RPM selections.

@mariapinadj created Cariñito for her love of Cumbia, a sound that was created in Colombia but traveled all through hispanic America. Her rhythmic sets are playful, sweaty and always centred on the dancefloor. She blends vintage tropical notes with urban textures. As a cumbia addict, she crafts sets that move between storytelling, connection and collective movement.

📅 See you the next Sunday 12 July from 5pm till 10
