Images taken at @blulab.inc back in June, during the Blu Lab stadium event and our @hoa.africa edition in Abidjan, somewhere between the noise of the game and the Lêkè hitting the ground.

A simple pair of plastic sandals… until you realize how much culture and lifestyle they can carry. And apparently, how many pairs can make it onto one football pitch in the middle of a powerful cultural celebration.
Everything I learned about Lêkè during my stay in Côte d’Ivoire, and later this year about Mika in Guadeloupe, intrigued me and made me dig deeper. I had no idea we all wore the same shoe in such different contexts, with so many stories and meanings attached to it.

I made a video out of my researches and it’s out now, check my previous post.

Also ngl I’m so proud to be living in a generation that is slowly taking back the pen, it’s inspiring. It takes a lot from us to do it, but we do it anyways cause we know how important it is, so big s/o to the whole team for this ✨ Across the continent and the diaspora, we’re no longer waiting for someone else to showcase our culture, tell our stories, decide what matters, or choose what deserves to be seen.
We’re building spaces. Creating archives. Documenting. Designing. Gathering. Our own way.
