My name is CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What a journey it has been. After taking multiple leaves of absence from medical school and requiring 6 years to complete this phase that usually takes 4 years, we are finally here!!! This is for someone who has been waiting on God & you feel like giving up, I hope you would keep trusting Him. He’s making everything beautiful in it’s time. I pray for strength & endurance to keep going. You are a conqueror!

Thank you everyone for all the love. I see your messages & posts and I’ll try to respond to all of them but just know that I love you and I appreciate you ❤️

I’ve shared my story at different times with different people for one purpose: To give hope and give glory to God!

I graduated from college in 2015. I took two gap years and during those years I sat for the MCAT twice and got the same score (491) both times. I had already applied to medical school and only received rejections. I felt defeated and did not know what more to do. Just when I was going to give up, my friend told me about a masters program in Indiana. My MCAT was a point higher than their required score at the time. Every other program I tried to apply to had higher requirements and I started to feel like I wasn’t good enough for a special masters’ program talk less of medical school🥺.

I applied to the program, interviewed and I was accepted. During that program, I sat for the MCAT a third time and finally got a score that I could reapply with (503) but I was now a reapplicant with 3 MCAT scores and subpar science GPA. I reapplied anyways and trusted God. I only applied to 12 programs, got interviewed at 3 and was accepted into 2 programs and waitlisted at the other.

I started my medical school journey at my current institution and when it felt like I had finally gotten a break, I was faced with another trial. I had to take leaves of absence from school at different times. I knew this would be a “red flag” during my interviews and the questions would arise: “ Why did it take you 6 years to graduate from medical school?”, “ Do you think you’ll be able to handle residency?”, “ Would you need additional time off in residency too?” and many other questions. I answered the questions with honesty and as best as I could (thank God for wisdom). Through it all, I held on to my faith and in the end, I MATCHED!

My journey has been far from traditional. I’ve been faced with various trials but the word that kept me through various seasons is James 1:2-4 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

You never know when you’ll be the person standing between someone and their second chance.

One of the most empowering skills you can have is knowing what to do in a cardiac emergency. Learning CPR and staying physically prepared could make all the difference when every second counts.

If you haven’t already, consider getting CPR trained or BLS certified. You may never need it but if you do, you’ll be grateful you took the time to learn.

You don’t have to be a healthcare professional to save a life. ❤️🫀

My friend commented, “You thrived sis… you did not survive.”

And I was reminded that though residency can be demanding, God has been kind to me.

Grateful for the moments of joy, friendship, movement, rest, adventure, and the quiet reminders that I am more than my training.

I’m learning that thriving doesn’t mean the season is easy. Sometimes it means God is sustaining you, keeping your heart alive, surrounding you with community, and giving you grace to keep becoming.

So yes, I am surviving residency. But I am also thriving by God’s grace.

The real challenge was never about being able to complete a mile.

It was learning to show up when motivation was quiet and discipline had to speak louder.

Running a mile a day for the month of June reminded me that consistency is built in ordinary moments - one decision, one step, one yes at a time.

It also reminded me that discipline is not just self-improvement; it’s also stewardship.

This month, I’ve set more challenges for myself, and I’ll be sharing lessons I’ve learned and lessons I’m still learning about consistency, discipline, and building habits that last.
