A few days ago, I had the chance to interview my friend Nieman about a new song he wrote for his upcoming album.

Somewhere between talking about melodies, lyrics, and the stories behind them, I realized I wasn’t just listening to an artist—I was listening to the same person I’ve known for more than twenty years.

Time has changed both of us in countless ways. We’ve grown older, taken different roads, experienced victories and heartbreaks, disappeared into our own seasons, and somehow found our way back into each other’s lives.

But the things that matter most about him have never changed.

Nieman is still one of the most earnest people I know. He’s always believed in people a little longer than most. He’s always chosen hope over cynicism. He’s never stopped showing up for the people he loves.

And perhaps the greatest example of that is Rachel.

Long before they were husband and wife, before they became parents, before life looked the way it does now, he simply believed. He loved with patience, with conviction, and with the quiet confidence that some stories are worth waiting for. Today, seeing them together with their beautiful little boy feels less like a happy ending and more like the continuation of a promise he never stopped believing in.

Watching him talk about this new record, I realized his music comes from the same place it’s always come from: sincerity. Every song feels like an extension of who he is.

Thank you for trusting me to help tell a piece of your story, my friend. It’s been a privilege watching your life become the kind of song you used to write about. by @_lejosh
