Behind every title is a story of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering faith. Watching someone step into everything they’ve worked so hard for is one of my favorite stories to capture. What a JOY!

I recently told my therapist that words alone can’t quite capture how Jalen makes me feel. The emotions in these photos are so raw because this love is one that is deeply experienced and felt. Since the start of my PhD, I’ve always been one to challenge the boundaries of academic work. For me, my research is more than research studies, data analysis, publications and presentations. It’s an opportunity for me to learn more about my community and their needs, and when possible… ADDRESS THEM!!! The idea of hosting a community babyshower came to me over a year and a half ago. I had no clue what went into hosting one or how I’d fund it but I knew it was something that was needed. I love my work and the opportunities it has afforded me. Seeing this come to fruition was surreal and very emotional. I put my heart into every. single. detail! Let’s see how far Cradles & Culture ™ goes, changing the culture one cradle at a time🥹🤎 by @_leslieswrld

God gave me the vision and my community helped me execute!!! August 31, 2024 I held the inaugural Cradles & Culture™ Community Babyshower. This community shower was intentionally curated for Black mamas and families to receive pregnancy and postpartum essentials and critical information from community organizations supporting reproductive health and education. The gift basket essentials, catering, community organizations, and event services all came from Black -owned, -founded, and/or -centered entities, making this experience the true definition of “For Us, By Us”🤎 While this was my first time hosting this event, I look forward to continuing these showers yearly on a larger scale with the help of more visibility and funding!
