“Siempre Boricua” song & music video OUT NOW EVERYWHERE! link in my bio 🇵🇷😽in celebration of the PR identity, the Caribbean diaspora, our resistance to colonialism, displacement, and erasure, SIEMPRE BORICUA. There’s a running joke like: “how’d you know I was PR?” meanwhile the person asking is flying like 3 PR flags, is dressed in PR stuff head to toe, their car has flags everywhere etc. There’s history to that. Did you know there was a law passed in 1948 called the Gag Law that made displaying the PR flag illegal and punishable by up to 10 yrs in prison? PR was a colonial prize to the US after the Spanish-American War, and our flag “threatened” the US’ establishment as a nation. Did you know reggaeton, known to be the music of resistance, was banned on the island and police raided homes where they thought the music was being made to destroy the cassette tapes? Reggaeton in its origin was music that spoke on social, economic, and political issues, and often ignited the people to resist. None of this is just music. SIEMPRE BORICUA - meaning FOREVER PUERTO RICAN - meaning we’re still here generations later, flying our flag in the face of our oppressors, and we’re not going anywhere. For love, with love, always. TY CHICAGO! 🫶🏽Wow, what an honor it was to open for the legendary @arresteddevelopment__ at Millenium Park. Yall embody love and hip hop, you met me with so much care and affirmation on my own identity as an artist, and you gave a hell of a show. ICONS! I’m a west side Chicago shorty to my CORE! I grew up in After School Matters programming, seeking opportunities to be on stage as early and for as long as I can remember. It was those passions and decisions that led me to this stage, one of the most iconic in Chicago. I wanted this set to embody my last ep MOTH and my own metamorphosis, inviting my audience in to reflect on their own transformations. We had 2 weeks to prep for a 1 hour set. 4 dancers, 4 piece band, 1 poet, 2 featured artists, poetic transitions, props, graphics, merch, etc. I gave it all I had and in return was met with so much love. THANK YOU! To the people who believe in me, who show up even when it’s not convenient, who trust my vision, who work so hard for us all to succeed. I am so grateful. We killed it, sold out of my first merch drop, and celebrated til the sun came up. I’m still recovering 😂THANK YOU! to my family, friends, mentors, teachers, community, and even strangers who continuously show up for me. You pour into my cup more than you know. This is one more step to where i’m headed.
