Often times we catch the highlight reel success of the ones who qualify for states or breaks school records. But during my collegiate running I had a coach once tell me a coach success can also be measured by how your athletes who are not the best athletes improve. This young man in his senior year once posted two years ago began his journey in the 400m dash running 1:18 as a freshmen. Let his end result tell you about determination, motivation, and believing in improving.

Huge shout out to a young junior athlete, Teddy Cohen. Huge improvements in his 300m time two weeks ago running 37.14 and came into regionals the underdog finishing with a time of 36.36. Missed out on qualifying for VA States by one place but that smile tells me there'll be more to the story.

The 2020 outdoor season as we all know was cut short for many high school athletes along with collegiate athletes. Weeks before the news I had a chance to catch up with my coach at the 2020 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships from junior college who not only gave myself and many others great tools but the community all began with this woman. Coach Williams welcomed me to the Jamaican culture, tradition, family, and surrounded me around wonderful people. To those athletes who all attended Iowa Western from the years 2011-2013 year I miss you all dearly and this picture reminds us all that life is precious and hold on to those life lessons you learn from coaches, teachers, mentors, and friends taken in Liberty University - Indoor Track by @_liveonpurpose_

I would have never thought we'd both be track and field collegiate athletes. @http.xav is by far the most freakish athletes of all his brothers. Today marks his first time back on the track since May of 2018.

It's time to watch my youngest brother carry the torch and watch him continue to grow and become the best version of himself as a student-athlete. by @_liveonpurpose_

A year ago I made a commitment to take a two day course to become USATF LEVEL I Certified. As my third year of coaching the focus moves on to becoming USATF LEVEL II Certified for the upcoming 2020-21 season. It continues to be a wonderful experience to take the knowledge we learn and apply it to our specific groups and watch everyone grow.

There was never a dull moment as a track and field athlete. I had an opportunity to practice and compete with teammates that were NJCAA and NCAA DI champions with some of them holding their home country record. Fast forward to a life now where coaching is my calling and I'm currently serving at a high school in Falls Church, Virginia.
We as coaches get a chance to demonstrate structure, discipline, encourage being a competitor and ultimately watch our athletes grow to become eager students learning this wonderful sport we all have come to compete and develop a passion for. #trackandfield #liveonpurpose #sprintcoach #athletejourney taken in Thomas Jefferson Community & Fitness Center by @_liveonpurpose_

Building confidence in your athletes is one thing. Watching them execute and perform well is something more. Last summer this sophomore decided to distinguish himself from his peers. He trusted in his training, saw the field, observed his opponents, and decided to make his move. He's gone from the middle of the pack to leading the pack running a 38.99 second 300m and it's only his 2nd race of the year. A week from today I'll be entering my 3rd year as a track and field sprints coach. I was reminded of the phenomenal athlete connection we built that all begin at Iowa Western Community College. We were teammates but most of all we reached out and stayed in touch. Visiting them in New York was a pleasure. Looking forward to sharing this message with my high school athletes and one day see them establish their own college student-athlete community.

He qualified for state championship three months out and now graduated. It was an amazing opportunity to have him as my first state qualifier. This young man is now at Ashland University applying that same hard work on the football field as a Wide Receiver. After growing into this sport since a small child and continuing into 4yrs of collegiate running, I begin a journey of learning more about the sport I love. The experience that I gained from those that I competed against, along with my former coaches and teammates are memories that I will forever cherish.
