NOLA!! You are filled with love, light, culture, and an abundance of joy. A city that is something unexplainable and precious. This trip was incredibly special in so many ways and for that New Orleans, you will forever have a piece of my heart. šŸ¦ŽāļøšŸŽ·šŸ–¤ taken in New Orleans, Louisiana by @_livversluis

On May 14th, I visited the @whitneyplantation. This Plantation is the most historically accurate when telling the truth of what slavery was. If not clear already; what I can assure you, is it wasn’t just the ā€œindustrialization back boneā€ of America- the downplayed version of history that is normally taught. Children experienced horrendous punishments for simply ā€œstealingā€ a piece of candy, violence towards women was viewed as trespassing of property, and men were stripped down to profitable characteristics. Humans are capable of the most beautiful things, but are also capable of the most evil things. We are capable of loving, and of hurting someone who bleeds the same color we all do. Leaving the plantation I was met with the most gutted feeling I have ever experienced. The realization I was freely walking out of a place people once fled from was surreal. It is a privilege to be alive, to be free. Down to where you are born is a privilege. Choosing to turn off the news, or to not educate yourself because it’s ā€œhard and sad,ā€ is a privilege. Society will preach equality when what they want is privilege and ignorance is bliss. On June 19th, just 160 years ago two years after the initial emancipation; mothers, fathers, children and their siblings- families and individuals were ā€œfreedā€ and systematic racism immediately started. Humans were meant to evolve and change. Apart of that process is taking accountability for past and current wrongdoings. Not downplaying, mocking, ignoring, or acting cowardly towards them. That is not bravery. So how can we call ourselves land of the free, home of the brave? How can we recite liberty and justice for all? The last slide of this photo was the last part of the plantation you visit. It is known as the anti woke church, as once ā€œfree;ā€they were finally allowed to believe in and practice their faith. All statues you see represent a person interviewed in the 1930’s, at the time they were emancipated- a child. (Photos are not being used for profit.) by @_livversluis

365 days. 12 months. 52 weeks. 8760 hours. everything we do is measured in time. i never thought my countdown would be to this. it’s crazy how 1 month can feel like a year, 6 months can feel like two weeks and a year can feel like basically a life time when someone, who you loved the most is no longer there sharing half of your years months days and hours with you. i never understood how much it could physically hurt missing someone so much emotionally. knowing that the laugh you here in your head or when you close your eyes. or the pressure you feel on your body that sometimes feels so real all you do is cry knowing even if it is it’s not. or how much detail down to how their hands looked playing over and over in your head not realizing those things mean the most to you now. time feels like nothing and everything at the same time. if you knew my dad you knew how much he loved and cared for everyone he knew no matter what the cost or what strain it put on him to help the ones he loved. the saddest part is knowing how much they loved you but always hoping they knew how much you loved them. even if it was immense amounts . i’ve gone through so much this past year and it’s almost felt like after my light left so much more darkness followed. there’s been many ups and many downs. and everytime it hits me that he wasn’t there even if emotionally and mentally and spiritually he was. no one can ever understand the relationship i had with him for the fact that he was my best friend and whole world. the one i knew i could always count on to carry me even if i could carry on myself. it’s hard trying to find happiness when you constantly worry if they’re happy where they are now. and if they were happy throughout their life and the time they spent in yours. everything changes. holidays. birthdays. family gatherings. but what changes the most is your perspective on everything around you and yourself. i find myself constantly looking for parts of him in every physical thing i can hold onto. my heart still hurts more than is comprehensible and i love him with everything. i miss him more than i can explain. sunrise to sunset. šŸ’› by @_livversluis
