How lucky I am to leave a piece of my heart in another country.

To have family and friends greet me with “we’ve been waiting for you” and send me home with “when will you be back?”

How lucky I am to have roots that run more than a hundred years deep in one little village.

To open the shutters of my great grandparents’ home and listen to the rain fall. The same home my Nonni was born in.

To walk through those rooms and find what looks like a family museum. Portraits on the walls and little treasures everywhere. Some of them from lives I never knew but still recognize.

How lucky I am to share all of this with my wife. To have the place and people I love start to mean something to her. To point out something new to her every two seconds and have her graciously and enthusiastically lean in every. single. time. (thank you Nic)

How lucky I am to have this place to miss. To leave it behind and feel the pull of it from an entire ocean away. How lucky I am to have my heart ache for another home. taken in Corfino, Garfagnana by @_lucialedoux

I’m learning that getting older means life’s getting heavier and it can be relentless. But then there’s this: watching my college best friend marry the actual greatest guy on the planet, a reuniting with my college roommate and getting to meet her sweet angel kid, having a weekend with three of my oldest friends and feeling how quickly 14 years (!!!) can go by. I got to have a few precious days with the people who know me best and make me laugh harder than I remembered that I could. All while literal magic unfolds in the form of a perfect wedding for our girl. Growing older is more bearable when I get to have this every now and then.

Anyway, here are some snaps I took with a lil point and shoot camera I spontaneously bought the week of. The last one is my favorite 🥹 by @_lucialedoux
