Who said you can’t…

Most 23/24 year old young adults have determined to put off starting a family because of what they CAN’T do. Family is seen as a restriction.

Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world. It is known as the City of Light. The name Luke means light so we must be made for each other. I have visited many times and was even fortunate to live in Paris for over a year.

Being able to share this place with my daughter for the first time was one of the highlights of my life. In fact, she made traveling better, not harder.

Perks of traveling with an infant:

👮‍♀️Priority line in airport security and boarding the plane
💺Upgraded to bulk head row (along with a row to ourselves)
💼 Additional baggage allowance for free
🛗Lift priority
😁and most of all, in every country we visited, even with a language barrier, people were more friendly and helpful

Those are mostly temporal benefits, but I haven’t even mentioned the enhancement Emerson’s smile and love made on our trip.

God is love - 1 John 4:8

We just concluded a hundred day stay in the DR 🇩🇴

Why were we there?

Kayli and I led a group of around 30 young adults serving with the International Language Program.

This may sound cliché, but we spent more time being served…

What strangers did for us:

☔️picked up during a rainstorm

🚖free taxi ride

🛻drove us down a dirt road where we needed to go

🗣️called a housing manager who didn’t speak English

🛒carried our groceries 10x

⛪️created an English Sunday School at church

🥜gave free food when I didn’t have enough money

🍪shared treat with me 10x

🧻saw us walking by after an injury and grabbed paper towels from their house to clean blood

🚶walked over a mile to show us where we needed to go

🚌held onto us when falling off a narrow seat on a bus

👶free necklace for our baby

🤿private snorkel tour because we missed the first

👍so much patience with our poor Spanish

⭐️child took stickers from their reward chart to give us

Small and simple ways to be sure, but—wow—the Domican’s always seek to serve. by @_luke_garrett

Down in Africa

Grateful for the opportunity to work with @familyhumanitarian raising awareness for the water crisis.

Excited to share that we’ll be spending the next chapter of our lives serving in the Dominican Republic!

We’re moving to Javillar next week overseeing six schools and doing a lot to get ready.

Some of you will know that today happens to be my birthday. Don’t worry that you may have forgotten to get me a gift! I have a better idea.

I have posted a list of items that we could use in our schools. It would be wonderful if you could take a moment to look through the list and see what you already have on hand.
