Chicago, this one is for you.

To the kids who grew up fighting for something.

The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers.
The round pegs in the square holes.

They can quote us, disagree with us, glorify, or vilify us.
But they can’t ignore us. Because we change things.

Some might see us as the crazy ones, but believe in your genius. Because the ones who are crazy enough to believe they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Still, and forever just a kid from Logan Square.

I will always give it my all — that’s simply how God made me.

But I’d be lying if I said that’s been true throughout my entire life. There have been seasons when it wasn’t.

My why is no longer rooted in my past because running has helped me let go of that. But today, I find the most inspiration in people who refuse to give up — those who are willing to look fear in the eye and relentlessly strive to become better, no matter the cost. I think the world needs more of that.

I stand firm in who I am because of what running has done for me. And I owe it to the sport to become everything I’m capable of — not just for myself, but for the people who feel lost and are yearning for something deeper, because that was once me.

On August 7th, I’ll be attempting my first 100-miler from Milwaukee to Chicago alongside someone whose story inspired me long before I ever met him.

This idea came from a conversation about how we could highlight a place we both feel deeply connected to while also shining a light on ultra running in Chicago, even if it’s only for a brief moment.

This city has some very special people, who work extremely hard. While I owe a lot to running, I owe even more to the people I’ve met along the way. My hope is that this brings attention to other people because Chicago has some dawgs.

This isn’t a race. There are no medals. It’s just two kids and a group of friends who feel they owe something to the running community and want to shine a light on their city while doing it.

This 100-mile attempt will be supported by @adidasrunning in the new Adidas Hyperboost.

Thank you @4_thangs_ for seeing something in this crazy idea. Your support means the world.

And as always, thank you to the home team @demonhrs for believing in two kids who will forever bleed Chicago.

This is running.

400 miles. From Canada to New York City. 39 hours, 59 minutes.

For three straight days, everywhere I looked there was competition. You couldn’t hide from it. There was no escaping it. And not a single person was backing down.

It’s not often you get to toe the line with people who truly push you to new heights. For most people, experiences like this are once in a lifetime, and I don’t take that lightly.

Somewhere within all of this — the exhaustion, the pressure, the uncertainty — there’s something you get to carry back home with you. Competition that leaves an imprint on you.

It creates a ripple. It forces growth. It reveals parts of yourself you haven’t fully tapped into yet.

And sometimes, it takes being surrounded by the very best to finally bring those things out of you.

That’s what SB400 felt like. True euphoria.

Somewhere between “how the hell am I doing this” and “I think I’ve been capable of this all along”.
