Standing in the footsteps of our tīpuna, above the waters, we see not only the Lake, but the reflection of our own.

The inner waters. The sacred breath. The stillness where wairua rests. Cloaked in tohu, connected to whenua and whānau, we rise into the Matatiki year with deep intention.

To guide. To hold. To restore.

For our whānau. For our whakapapa. For the generations yet to come.

Mahi tūkino is real life for a lot of our whānau here in Aotearoa.

We need to be having more open, honest kōrero and educating our rangatahi on the importance of consent. And since I’m here, it’s time we challenge the intergenerational norms of sweeping things under the rug and protecting whānau because they’re “whānau.”

Our rangatahi deserve better than silence, because silence is what allows it to continue.
