Yeah so.. thirty won.. but y’all how can I not feel good about thirty one?

In the next year, I promise to take more pictures, make more memories, enjoy the fruits of my labor, focus on what and who really matters, pour into those around me and aim to be at my fullest potential. At my best.

I don’t usually post things like this.

A few months ago I finished a program called Become A Beacon, and it was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever done. I mean that as the highest compliment.

Most people who know me know I can put on a show. But in that room, alongside a small group of leaders all wrestling with the same quiet problem, the performance couldn’t survive. We were hiding behind being good at things. Competence as a mask. And the mask doesn’t just hide your face, it dims your light.

Some weeks I showed up with nothing in the tank. I kept showing up anyway, because the work was real and the people witnessing it were real. I uncovered things, personally and professionally, that I didn’t know existed within myself.

I recorded a video about the experience. It’s below. It’s the unmasked version, which is the only version worth sharing.

My favorite thing to do is shine a light on other people, and today that’s Brandon Clift. This experience changed my life, professionally and personally, and I genuinely can’t wait for the people closest to me to go through it.

His next cohort opens at the beginning of September. If any part of this stirs something in you, send me a message. I’ll make the introduction personally.

Words can’t describe what it means to me.   It’s always been in my heart. The only difference now is that the world knows it. And I promise, I’ll never let the world forget it.

To the wonderful men that have come before me in this illustrious fraternity, know that I will uphold the standard and I understand the magnitude of responsibility and confidence you have in me to represent you all, and I don’t take that lightly. It’s truly a lifelong dream come true.   It’s with great pride to announce that I’m officially a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
