These pictures were taken only eight months apart—but the distance between them cannot be measured in months, pounds, clothing sizes, makeup, or appearances.

It can only be measured in peace.

This is not simply a “before and after.” This is what survival took from me—and what healing, faith, and finally choosing myself restored.

The woman on the left was never ugly, lazy, weak, or unworthy. She was still smiling, spreading love, being kind, and bringing joy everywhere she went. But inside, she was heartbroken, depleted, and surviving. She gave her love, energy, patience, and support to everyone else because abuse had convinced her that she did not deserve to give those things to herself.

Never—ever—allow anyone to dim your light, silence your voice, shrink your power, or make you ashamed of your excitement for life. If someone mocks your talents, shuts down your self-expression, punishes your happiness, or makes you feel that you must become smaller to be loved, that is not a love you should have to earn.

The woman on the right is not a “revenge body.” She is a restoration testimony.

She is what happened when I stopped abandoning myself. I returned to Jesus, prayer, my health, dancing, skating, art, building my business, my dog, my family, and every passion God placed inside me. I still pour love into others—but now I pour it into myself, too.

The glow you see is not simply weight loss. It is happiness returning to my eyes, peace returning to my nervous system, confidence returning to my posture, and purpose returning to my days.

Eight months apart.

Same woman. Same heart. Different spirit.

One was surviving. The other is finally living.

Protect your gifts. Follow your passions. Go after the life God placed on your heart. Never let another person convince you that your light is too bright, your dreams are too big, or your joy is too much.

Cutting the cord was not the end of my life.

By the grace of God, it was the beginning. 🤍

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

The story of September 11th carries a complex web of emotions that gets unpacked every year. For those of us who lived that day in New York, it’s still so surreal and is still so vividly imprinted in our brains. Feelings of confusion, fear for safety and our way of life, and a level of uneasiness that permeated the air as everyone navigated this very day, a quarter of a century ago.

For me, that meant not knowing why I was one of less than a handful of people in an otherwise empty Manhattan school building. I was unsure of my mother, who was in Westchester with no way into the city, and my dad who was in The Bronx. No ability to get in touch with anyone. Just waiting in eerie silence after the Twin Towers collapse.

Eventually, my grandfather showed up, but still so much was unknown. And just like that, a city that never stopped just stood still.

Extremists want us to live in fear. Instead, we made September 11th—not a story of our suffering—but a story of resiliency and tenacity in the face of fear.
