This trip was filled with mixed emotions. As a first-gen student, who started with nothing and had no idea how to pursue my dreams, this adventure was an incredible experience. I loved learning about Haitian and Dominican culture. The most memorable part wasn’t just helping to cure or prescribe medication, but seeing the emotions on people’s faces, knowing that people came from far lengths to help them feel better. Their expressions lit me up when they saw we had the medication to care for them or the surgical supplies to assist their infections. Witnessing healthcare methods and the blending of cultures, especially among the Haitian and Dominican people, inspired me to continue pursuing my dreams in global health. Although it was heartbreaking that we couldn’t help everyone, we were able to help around 1000 people in this country . So thank you Dominican Republic and GMT 🇩🇴 for being able to open a new chapter for me .
