in timișoara, every now and than you’ll find these mansions right next to or minutes away from pre revolution apartment blocks. following the Romanian revolution in 1989, the new government was unstable and continued a legacy of corruption, land and labor sold in mass cheaply, inflation was skyrocketing, so those who had the money bought up huge proprieties near the center, building luxurious houses, some being left with little actual wealth afterwards, leading to the houses being left empty or just abandoned. this is the result of the messy transition from the previous communist government to capitalism. Romania had weak institutions, privatization everywhere, black markets being the dominant form of transactions, and huge inequality. wealth and power was redistributed, many of those who had a hand in that were able to get rich, millions of workers lost stable industrial jobs post revolution due to deindustrialization by closing, cheaply selling, or mismanaging factories, big cities got rich and boomed while rural communities were left behind. romania got richer, but it concentrated. taken in Timișoara, România by @_mateiii29

I wasn’t planning on posting anything while on vacation but i just wanted to spread awareness about the current situation in beltast. the north of ireland has long been under colonial occupation and treated unjustly from the UK’s government. people are hopeless, public services are neglected, and education and work life is failing. neoliberalism and capitalism has killed the working class, de industrialization absolutely destroyed the once thriving econonimirs and workplaces throughout the regions. but privatization and the closure of these once thriving communities and workplaces has killed these communities and left them in a constant state of neglect. when people are scared, don’t trust institutions, and neglected, they need someone to blame, and immigrants are the easiest thing to paint as evil when in reality it comes directly from what british rule has done to its communities. #belfast #immigration #farright #riots #neoliberalism taken in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK by @_mateiii29
