Reflection piece: A decade ago I was learning how to be somebody’s mother for the very first time. This past year, I learned how to become her all over again.
Motherhood has stretched me, humbled me, and introduced me to versions of myself I never knew existed. It has also taught me that my children don’t need a perfect mom. They need THEIR mom.
The goofy one who dances in the kitchen for no reason. The one who laughs too hard at her own jokes. The one who encourages imaginative play. The one who isn’t afraid to be silly because joy is something she believes should be passed down.
To me being a good parent is measured by how safe your children feel, how deeply they feel loved, and whether they trust they can always come home to you when they depart.

One year down and somehow you’ve already filled our lives with enough adventure to last a lifetime. Before you could even walk, you were climbing everything in sight. They say the second baby is the wild one and I’d say they’re onto something Lol you came into our lives 10 years after your big brother and really shook things up and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

To my little adventurer Happy 1st Birthday! I can’t wait to see where your fearless spirit takes you.
