Chicago❤️‍🔥I like to paint and draw🐈‍⬛full-time art therapist/LCPC in community mental health👁️

Wheel of Fortune, 30x40 inches, gouache acrylic and marker on illustration board 🎡☢️ by @_mikkijay

“Enter,” 30x40, gouache, acrylic and marker. Based on visual research of my visit to Las Vegas. See it in the Happy Gallery Halloween art show, opening 10/19 and closing 11/2 with a Halloween party. I will also have more paintings in there. @happygallerychicago by @_mikkijay

I finished another big painting!
“Escape the System,” 30x40, gouache, acrylic and marker on illustration board.
This was a bit of a different style for me. I was inspired to make this as a response to my work as a therapist. As some of you may know, my full time job is as a mental health therapist in community mental health, and I often use art therapy with my clients. I think one of the best parts of being a therapist is peering into the complex mechanics of the individual human mind. One of the things I specialize in is working with psychosis, and understanding the mechanics of the mind becomes even more fascinating. This painting was inspired by that work and wading through these stories, both real and fictional, or informed by other life experiences I’ve had. Swipe through to see details, a video, and the edited image. Thank you for looking 🐚🌈🪐

Curated by Luna Rail, Agitator member

With the past year of chaos, and domestic terrorism from ICE, Border Patrol agents, and the Fed, this exhibition provides space for artists, writers, journalists, citizens, musicians, activists, organizers, and the rest of us to tell our stories and our truth.

The artists exhibiting in this show directly reference the past year in the U.S. and they go far beyond this place and time. Their artworks are both topical and broad in scope.

We—and those who came before us—have been at this for a very long time. We want to show that we're not going anywhere!
