Hi! Photos of my spiderweb in my childhood bedroom:)

This project explores my attachments to certain objects that were present during a traumatic event or that I feel had a impactful presence in my childhood. I have emphasized them by crocheting over them as a way to both preserve and protect what I feel is important to me.

At the center of my web is a bed knob, the bed knob is slightly bent from the traumatic event that took place when I was young, and it is the only physical indication that the event happened at all. The center of the web is also where spiders rest.

I hope you’ve enjoyed it and I will be posting more about this project :3

“You take a name, you write it down, and then you hold onto it. A piece of them etched onto you, too.”

This piece is a direct reflection of my frustrations regarding the inaction of the government and UAL to divest itself from the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. The events in Gaza have been referred to as ‘the first live-streamed genocide’ as Palestinians on the West Bank use social media to access financial support and evacuation aid from viewers around the world. I am one of those viewers. I have watched as countless families who have experienced immeasurable loss, begged for their lives — people learning to speak English solely to plead, children parroting words they don’t understand so they could live past childhood. And then, I watched them die. I watched people become martyred, from person to symbol. I watched people who have lost everything, lose more. I have no space in my heart, nor my soul, for creativity or for beauty. My soul and heart are etched with the names of the people this country, and this institution, have failed. This piece highlights the complicity we all take part in. You take a name, you write it down, and then you hold onto it. A piece of them etched onto you, too.

Prototype of obj. 1

I am working on a new project /installation piece :)) I am recreating objects from my childhood bedroom based off of the way I remember interacting with them when I was younger (ages 5-7). I’m making them into plushies and they will be on the scale of my adult body :))

In the Cube Project, I am reflecting on my younger self and her to control her physical being.

Growing up, I genuinely believed that others saw me differently from how I saw myself, and I struggled to accept my physical identity. That’s why for this ongoing project I am giving people, and myself, the ability to create a face they have control over.

That’s why with this project I am giving people, and myself, the ability to create a face they have control over. Either recreating a face with a cube’s full set (of facial features) or mixing different cubes together and having a variety of facial features.”

Part of these images were used to create the shapes in the mobile from my last project. I plan to use these images again in a “controlled” space I plan on creating!
