Excited to be announcing home away from home's first release for 2025, missgene's debut album, Penpal. Two tracks are available to stream on Bandcamp, 030.693 44 14 (affectionately known as ‘numbers’) and randomgenes. Swipe for a preview. Eight tracks of dubby, new-age, neo-classical ambience that joins the dots between late 80’s proto-dance DIY tape music and modern day emo-tech. It’s lush, it’s earnest, and I think it’s a beautiful record. From the album notes: “At its core, Penpal is a meditation on home—not just as a place, but as a feeling. It captures the bittersweet reality of maintaining bonds across physical and emotional spaces, from the quiet rhythm of exchanging messages like postcards to the long silences between shared moments and the profound resonance of absence in long-distance friendships." Pre-order on Bandcamp, available on limited run frosted white cassette and digital download. @_missgene has also made a small run of 3 x prints (edition of 15). objet personnel w/ missgene //016 pine cone @_missgene carefully guides us on this really intimate feeling one hour sonic journey: „My object is a tiny fully formed pine cone. Each autumn when the weather starts to get colder I try to go out for a walk to find a tiny pine cone. The small achievement of collecting a little piece of the outside world has a ritualistic effect of warding off the seasonal blues, at least that is the goal. Rumination in the shadowy cold months can lean towards depression or inspiration depending n the day and this hour of audio attempts to collage experiences of early winter days, losing daylight hours to monotonous work, creating warmth and sanctuary and the still ambience of misty mornings.“ Artwork credit: @brauchemehrclubmate by @_missgene

Hello! It's been a few weeks since we released penpal on @hafh.online 🌀 The reception has been so nice. Thank you to everyone who has listened, bought the release, or just sent us a nice message. A very special thanks to @fbiradio for their support (truly an institution), @feelthefloor.rrr, and DJ Alex at KEXP for the airplay. Penpal is out today 💌 Thank you so much to everyone who's listened, pre-ordered, or sent a nice message about the record. Tapes and prints will be shipping next week! Speaking of, the tapes and prints look so good. It's kinda hard to get a good pic of the silver matte metallic print but trust me it looks great irl (thanks to my hand model @emma.j0nes_). Prints come in a set of three (one of each) and we have 7 of 15 left on Bandcamp. Handmade/hand packaged by Maxi. Also Bandcamp heard that the album was coming out today and decided they'd bring back Bandcamp Friday, which they didn't have to do just for us but whatever.
