These past Two years have been one of the hardest. A thousand versions of me. A lifetime of becoming. I’ve loved, lost, grieved, surrendered, and rebuilt. I’ve watched pieces of my old life fall away while learning to embrace the woman emerging beneath it all. Somewhere between the endings and beginnings, I learned that softness is not weakness, that letting go can be an act of love, and that I was never meant to abandon myself to keep everything else alive. And when the world felt unfamiliar, I returned to what has always known me. I’ve learned that not everyone is meant to witness every version of our becoming, and that choosing myself doesn’t mean I’ve stopped loving those I’ve left behind. My roots. My ancestors. The medicine in my hands. The wisdom in my bones. I am their prayers, their resilience, their wildest dreams. Through it all, my ancestors have reminded me of the medicine in my hands, the resilience in my blood, and the magic that was never truly lost. I am the continuation of women who turned pain into medicine, who found beauty in the darkness, and who knew that even after death, something sacred could bloom. I honor every woman I’ve been. I welcome every woman I’m becoming. To every version of me that carried me here: thank you. I no longer mourn every version of me I’ve outgrown. I thank her. I honor her. And I let her rest. Because some things had to die for this version of me to bloom. De mis cenizas florecí. Y de mis raíces, nunca me fui. 🥀🖤 - this is last years shoot & I can truly say they are my favorite traditions to gift myself; this Catrina experience each year is a beautiful way to honor my ancestors, celebrate my roots, and make space for myself through every season of becoming. 🥀 Even more special is getting to support incredibly talented creatives I’m blessed to know. Paulina, thank you for bringing the vision to life through your makeup and wardrobe artistry, and Danny, for capturing the magic so beautifully. Forever grateful for the art, the connection, and the intention behind it all. 🖤✨ can’t wait to shoot this year! Xoxo 💋 by @_missshh
Each year we are honored to invite esteemed elders and ceremonialists to set and ground the healing space at our clinics. This is behind the scenes labor that we would like to make visible! We are grateful to have Arisika Razak holding the closing prayer for the Clinic! 🦋 Arisika Razak, MPH has been a midwife, healer, spiritual dancer, healthcare advocate and educator for over fifty years. She is also Professor Emerita and the former Director of the Women’s Spirituality Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies. For over two decades she served as an inner city midwife in the San Francisco Bay Area, offering home and hospital births to women and their families from over 70 countries. As a healthcare educator, she worked at the local, national and professional level to educate dominant culture providers about the importance of providing culturally sensitive, personalized and accessible healthcare to diverse populations. Her early healing circles celebrated the power and sacredness of the female body, reflecting her belief that we are all embodiments of the Sacred. Her dance celebrates the faith of the ancestors; contemporary struggles for liberation, and the transformative gifts and challenges of embodied existence. Currently a core teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center, Arisika is a regular contributor to books, journals, and online conferences, focusing on multiculturalism and diversity, African/Diasporan healing modalities, Buddhism and womanism, and embodied spirituality and movement. She was a core member of the Purple Moon Dance Project for twenty years and has been a repeat performer at national and international conferences. 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 🌿2026 Clinic: Remembering Our Way 🌿 🗓️ Sunday, October 4, 2026; 10:30am- 5:30pm 🏞️ Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center | 7701 Krause Ave, Oakland, CA 94605 🫰No cost to participate. This mini documentary, created in partnership with @jooks_media, was made possible by a communication grant Sol Root received from @wildseedsfund and NDN Collective's Blue Deer grant. We captured the heart and intention behind Sol Root’s work; diasporic remembering, sharing knowledge, and healing with the land. Our mini doc focuses on our growing of corn using the indigenous technology of the Milpa, where crops are interplanted to create a symbiotic ecosystem. And culminates with our Seed-to-Tortilla workshop, a collaboration with @bolitamasa where we brought the community together to learn about nixtamalization, milpa planting, tortilla making, and enjoying the culinary brilliance of our ancestors. After the screening, we will hold a discussion about our farming journey at Sol Root, what brought us into farming and why we had to stop farming, as well as our process creating the mini doc with Jooks media, why the collaboration worked. Lastly, questions, comments and connections from you, the audience. Additionally, this is a fundraiser event to support Sol Root in closing the farming business. We will have our remaining inventory of bulk herbs and seeds for sale. We are hoping to collect enough funds to pay remaining debt and pay for closing out costs. Please note: 🌽 Parking is limited, consider public transportation and carpooling. Macarthur Bart station is a 10 minute walk to Revival Hall. 🌽 ADA Accessible, small short ramp at door way. Bathroom on main ground floor, additional up one flight of narrow steps. Event Flow: 6:30 - Doors open: settle in & enjoy refreshments 7:00 - Screening starts promptly 7:30 - Panel discussion followed by Q&A 8:00 - Closing circle Sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds. Please reach out if you need a complimentary ticket. Contribution provides: 🌽 A seat at the screening 🌽 Light refreshments 🌽 Support for Sol Root to pay debts and cover closing costs Get your tickets ➡️ link in bio #maiz #milpa #medicinadelamilpa by @_missshh
Each year we are honored to invite esteemed elders and ceremonialists to set and ground the healing space at our clinics. This is the behind the scenes labor that is poured into our approach to Ceremonial Organizing that we would like to make visible to celebrate the elders who are the heart of the powerful healing and care work that is experienced at our clinics. We are grateful to have Patricia Chicueyi Coatl holding the opening prayer! 🦋Maestra Patricia Juarez, Chicueyi Coatl is a Nahua-Mexicayotl ceremonial dancer, teacher, and Indigenous knowledge practitioner who has dedicated her life to preserving and transmitting the ancestral wisdom of her Nahua lineage. She is the founder of Calpulli Huey Papalotl, a Danza Mexica ceremonial dance and learning circle, and Calmecac Tlalocan, a Nahua Native higher Education Institute. Through these spaces, she has built enduring pathways for communities to reconnect with Indigenous cosmology, ancestral philosophy, and the healing sciences of Nahua and Mesoamerican traditions. As a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Ethnic Studies department, she co-taught the course Spirituality as Resistance and has been invited to present on Mesoamerican Traditions at universities, colleges, and cultural centers across California and beyond. As an independent scholar on Native Studies Patricia teaches courses on this area of knowledge all year round. Patricia Chicueyi Coatl is also an avid researcher on AI and its ethical implications. She presents at various Higher Ed conferences. She has been spotlighted in the recently published book “The Curanderx Toolkit: Reclaiming Ancestral Latinx Plant Medicine and Rituals for Healing” by author and Bay Area herbalist Atava Garcia-Swiecicki. 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 🌿2026 Clinic: Remembering Our Way 🌿 🗓️ Sunday, October 4, 2026; 10:30am- 5:30pm 🏞️ Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center | 7701 Krause Ave, Oakland, CA 94605 🫰No cost to participate. You are invited to HCC’s 🌿✨ - 2026 Healing Clinic: Remembering Our Way With heightened attacks on our communities that incite fear and anger, with insidious technology & media that beg us to dissociate, we are calling on our ancestral memory to give us guidance. This prayer is a spiritual pause, to listen to our hearts so that we might move through these unprecedented times. At this year’s clinic we are celebrating the wholeness of our communities, selves, and traditions. We hold the prayer that our bodies and communities may be whole and sanctuaries for joy where every child and elder is safe, cared for, and their medicine respected as sacred roles in the circle of life. May we transform our beliefs, systems, and cultures so that this may be so. May we remember our way to joy and justice. At the clinic, attendees will receive no-cost healing modalities which may include massage therapy, energy healing & cleansing, acupuncture, herbal medicine consultations, grief counseling, group workshops, and more! We hope to see you at the Clinic and may we continue to steward a future based on collective care and liberation! This year’s clinic is co-sponsored by @sacredrootsoakland thank you for your collaboration! 🌿2026 Clinic: Remembering Our Way , Sunday, October 4, 2026; 10:30am- 5:30pm 1 Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center | 7701 Krause Ave, Oakland, CA 94605 No cost to participate. Each Clinic we organize we center a prayer to guide and direct the healing energy that is generated from bringing together so many powerful healers and elders sharing their medicine in the same space. We see that often what we as individual people are healing from is connected to systemic wounds. Our prayers tend to that systemic wound, that bigger pain that connects us as people living under oppressive systems. When we bring our individual healing together in a clinic, our individual pain becomes medicine for our individual and collective freedom and healing; it amplifies and magnifies as our ancestors stand in solidarity together. This is Ceremonial Organizing in action. This poem centers the prayer of our 2026 Fall Clinic: We remember. We remember our inner children. We remember our Ancestral Intelligence. We call ourselves back as we remember and piece by piece, memory by memory, our Spirits become whole. We call back our wholeness as communities and people. We call back our forgotten selves, traditions, and roots. We Remember Our Way to Joy & Justice. As you come to the clinic, we invite you to reflect on: what are you remembering and where are you going? 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 🌿2026 Clinic: Remembering Our Way 🌿 🗓️ Sunday, October 4, 2026; 10:30am- 5:30pm 🏞️ Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center | 7701 Krause Ave, Oakland, CA 94605 🫰No cost to participate.
