Where did the term EDM come from? Part Two. I couldn’t quite get there in part one so here we go. Just to be clear there were alot of other Hip Hop DJ’s that had influence on the mash up and that played electronic dance music in their open format sets and the rave community always accepted other forms of music like hip hop. The point I’m trying to make is that for the mainstream club crowd to accept electronic dance music it needed the big DJ’s playing those rooms across the country to start playing that music and I think DJ AM had a huge part in influencing that. Combine that with the sudden rise of dubstep and DJ’s like David Guetta and Calvin Harris collaborating with pop artists and BOOM! EDM was a term everyone knew and it was on top of the club world.

Where did the term EDM come from? And why did club nights go from Hip Hop to Mash Ups to Open Format? I’ve been wanting to share my thoughts on this for a while and with the Banana Split 20 year anniversary party this Sunday I figured what better time than now. There’s no way I could get everything in less than three minutes so this is part one. Follow along for part two and I’ll tie it all together.

I think what I was trying to say was as long as the music is good the local DJ’s on the lineup aren’t necessarily bringing people in the door. Which is fine that’s not why I book them. That’s not their job. I try to promote this party how I would want a promoter to as a DJ.

Watching that video back I was like this is whack I can’t believe I would ever say something like that. Of course the DJ lineup is important. Luckily I caught it and decided not to post it and I just held my phone and hit record and spoke from the heart. Like I always do.

What are your thoughts? How important is the DJ lineup for small clubs and bars on a weeknight?

The world lost another good one 😢 DJ Freaky Fred was one of the nicest people I ever met in the industry. He was booking headliners for a huge college party in Spokane. I told him I’m not quite a headliner yet but I drive over there alot to visit my girlfriend at WSU so you wouldn’t have to pay for my flight. He booked me to open up for my homie DJ Cide and put me and my girlfriend up in a fancy hotel. It was such a fun night I will never forget his kindness and generosity. Rest his soul. by @_mixedupmike_

Hi I’m Mike 👋🏼 I have a wife, two kids, a full time job and I create music content on social media and throw a unique monthly Disco Party every third Thursday of the month at Calypso in Edmonds. I book some of the best DJ’s in Seattle and the only rule for the music is you can play whatever you want as long as it’s related to Disco somehow. You will hear everything from Donna Summers to Dua Lipa. This month we have a Disco outfit costume contest with cash prizes. by @_mixedupmike_

Dooms Night by Azzido Da Bass the Timo Maas remix. I felt like bringing this one back today because I have a special dedication for it. If you like my content let this one rip until 00:45 before you move on. I think you might appreciate it.

I try to keep my content about music it actually helps me not stress out about the horrible things happening in the world but sometimes I feel like I need to speak up and say something. I’m almost to 20k followers so a little cleansing of anyone who wants to unfollow me for this would be good. See ya later!

My favorite thing about Disco is there is so much good music out there that I haven’t even heard yet. The best stuff is the lesser known records that you haven’t heard before. I discovered all three of these songs recently and they are incredible. I look forward to keep on discovering old disco records that are new to me.

If you have any recommendations for me please drop it in the comments.

A wise man once said nothing at all. Stick around to the end to hear one of the greatest songs of all time. I found this record on my trip to the UK and couldn’t pass it up. It’s all extended dub remastered versions.

I had been patiently waiting for this package to arrive. It’s all the records I bought in the UK that wouldn’t fit in my suitcase. Big shout out to @recordcorneruk for getting them to me timely and safe.

When I was a kid I used to buy a new CD and sit in my room and listen carefully to it all night. Same person same feeling. Life is just a little bit different now a days.
