What does it mean to be emotionally honest in a world that tells you to stay silent? This is a speculative short of a comedic drama i'd like to create in the future. Following the lives of four young black men in college exploring friendships, romantic relationships, academics and societal pressures. Within this short, Kyle, expresses his frustration with his friend Brian, which sparks an honest conversation.

A short film about a girl in college trying to find her clique. In the search for her group of people to connect with she finds herself in a dangerous situation. She now has to survive the night before she becomes just another missing face.

This was filmed during my last year at Suny Purchase. It was originally a throw away script after dealing with micro-agressions in my short film class that discouraged me from going through with it. Special thank you to my friend and talented Director of Photography and Sound Editor @celiebrate.films that played an integral part of bringing this to life.

Special Thank you to my crew and cast as well for being patient with me, this was the largest crew i've ever directed and I learned so much from this experience.

BehindTheScenes + Barbershop Teaser
Im grateful to have been able to capture the behind the scenes of Kevin Marshall’s work process. His piece touches on the emotions he felt during a hard time in his life and he used his art form, photography, as a format to express his emotions. Art is one of the many formats that allow you to express your emotions and now more than ever its important to be loud about your expression. At the end you’ll find a teaser of my short film Barbershop Hour (the name inspired by Kevin) a short that touches on the themes of emotional expression being a taboo in many cultures, specifically for black men. I wrote and shot this piece as a letter to all the black men I know and the black boys that grow into men so that they can watch a reflection of themselves in a space where they can be emotional and not chastised for it. I want it to be a reminder that their is always a community of people you can open up to, express yourself too and that therapy, despite the stigma behind it, is an option.
