Nancy Jesse @_nancyjesse_ „No Man is an Island“ (1624) John Donne No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manner of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee. This poem was written in the 17th century and is as relevant today as it gets. For her series "No Man is an Island," Nancy Jesse has traveled to a small island in the west of Scotland to explore questions of separation and belonging, the fascination for islands and the issues they raise in a world whose crises leave no one untouched. #nancyjesse #jahrgangsiebzehn #ostkreuzschuleberlin by @_nancyjesse_

here are a few impressions from the pre-release concert for my upcoming album ZERALDA. ✨ the music weaves together chanson, jazz and classical music with grotesque beats, meeting lyrics that explore the conflict between one’s own consuming, destructive potential and the longing for a life of sensual abundance and connection. a thousand thanks… …to @lana_mari_music , @phil.kullen and @bassmati.rice for bringing my musical visions to life, …to @galilaeakirche for welcoming us into your space and letting us perform there on 21th October 2026, …to Dalia Hochbach for the make-up and your warm support backstage …to @gretamarkurt for filming and for helping me get into my dress …to @_nancyjesse_ for the wonderful photographs (it was hard to make a selection because I loved them all), …to so many others who helped make this concert happen, … (last but not least!) to the wonderful audience! I was deeply moved by your presence as well as your warm and heartfelt response! 💜 by @_nancyjesse_

Öffnungszeiten: Mo–Fr: 13–19 Uhr Sa & So: 11–19 Uhr Ausstellungsführungen: Sa 17.10., 14 & 17 Uhr So 25.10., 14 & 17 Uhr Kunstquartier Bethanien Projektraum Mariannenplatz 2, 10997 Berlin @ostkreuzschulefuerfotografie #klassemahler by @_nancyjesse_
Last year, I was part of the first “Klasse Mahler” – a seminar led by Ute and Werner Mahler @uwmahler – and worked on my ongoing series “Oder kann ich mich nur nicht erinnern” (working title). In this series, I keep returning to the small town where I grew up. The town is shaped by its GDR past and the structural changes that followed. Many years after I left, I’m rediscovering this place. What was once familiar now seems both familiar and foreign to me. In a time of growing social division, when dialogue and active listening to one another feel increasingly difficult, I try to explore the themes of origin, growing up, and returning to a place that you once knew by heart, but no longer fully recognize. If you want to see more of this work, as well as the wonderful work of my seminar colleagues, we’d love to invite you to our exhibition! ❤️✨ Vernissage: 16th October, 7pm with an opening speech by Ute and Werner Mahler. Opening: 16th to 25th October, Mon – Fri 1 – 7 pm, Sat & Sun 11 am – 7 pm Location: Kunstquartier Bethanien | Projektraum, Mariannenplatz 2 · 10997 Berlin by @_nancyjesse_

Setara, Afghanistan „My female friends in Afghanistan aren’t allowed to go to school; they’re at home. When I talk to them, they say they’re just waiting. (…) Then I tell myself: Thank goodness I’m here; I have to study.“ Setara‘s portrait is part of the project I’m working on in cooperation with @bbt_bundeselternnetzwerk . For this project we interviewed and portrayed people that came to Germany from third countries that are or were involved in the German education system. Through the interviews and the portraits we want to give them a voice hearing their stories, the good and the bad things they experienced during their time navigating the German education system. Exhibition opening: 7th May, 6 pm, Hansabibliothek, Berlin ✨ by @_nancyjesse_
