Cleithro explores the instability of conscious experience and the consequences that develop when that experience erodes. Gradually discovering the burden of self-awareness, this work reveals an evolutionary paradox-the same cognitive capacities that enable human adaptation and suvival yield a vulnerability to psychological torment. Specifically focusing on compulsive and impulsive brain states, locked-in syndrome, and split-brain syndrome, we discover how consiousness and internality can begin to feel like imprisonment. by @_nathanwaters

Video description: An opening scene in a black box of someone entering their surprise birthday party and accepting gifts from friends is interrupted by manic scenes displayed throughout the piece. The setting mimics a children’s party with dancers dressed in colorful, layered clothing of skirts, pants, and dresses. Triangle party hats, streamers, and balloons are spread throughout the space. The cut scenes vary in chaos and are lit in slight strobe lighting from above and a harsh green light. Some scenes show dancers awkwardly behaving like stuck toys or laying on the floor while others move around tangled in streamers. “You” BY MAYA SABBAH IN COLLABORATION WITH DANCERS.
PREMIERING APRIL 23-25 IN THE MARTHA B. KNOEBEL DANCE THEATER @csulbdance.

“You” exposes the aftermath effects of the soul becoming fragmented. Each performer embodies a fragmented self, resorting to external blame for their internal circumstances. Silenced by the ego, suppression of the truth of self remains while the soul pleads to speak. Performers traverse, enduring debilitating conflict to operate at a high frequency in alignment with their souls, attempting to abandon the ego once manufactured in physical reality. Performers soon discover where the blame was misdirected.

This Friday, we’re premiering “Wasp Nest”, a final choreography project by Nathan Waters. Adding his own original music score, this duet explores the use of structured improv and weight sharing.

“Fish Fight” choreographed by Nathan Waters. 🎣

“Fish Fight” examines the morality and inescapable nature of competition. The work explores how competition manifests in biological, evolutionary, economic, and social structures through the use of dynamic partner choreography.

Set to his own original electronic sound score, Waters creates a sense of unease as the performers attempt to secure their only source of sustenance: the fish. Who will come out on top? Are there truly any winners in a system driven by competition?

Our first sneak peek into our Fall 2025 show: Take One/Take Two! 🎬✨

Here’s a look at a film piece by student choreographer, Izzy! She teamed up with alum Nathan Waters, who filmed and even created an original audio track just for her dance film piece (but you’ll have to come to the show to hear it 😅)!! Izzy and other IVC dancers stayed busy this summer working on choreography and film shoots. This will be her first time presenting work in our dance production! We can’t wait to see the finished product in November!

✨Show dates will be from November 14-22!✨
