Getting off on a Sunday from a long week of 24 hour shifts can be relaxing. I’m very blessed to have my creatine (which by the way helps with brain function after hard nights with no sleep on shifts). My beautiful wife to support me, and most definitely every Sunday I have the Eucharist. The Holy Mass/ The Divine Liturgy is where heaven and earth reach. As I have said many times with this job it can change you for the better or for the worst. I may be a firefighter, a husband, a son and a brother. However, my identity is in Christ.

These are 3 of the many things that help me maintain my career, health and attitude as a firefighter.

1.) Prayer is probably the biggest habit that you can do as a first responder. Personally I go to adoration, as a Catholic or really any Christian this is the best therapeutic practice that you can do. All by the Grace of God, I could not do this job with out Christ.
2. Train. It is non negotiable. Whether it’s, in gear, out of gear, outside of work or even learning more on your craft on the apparatus or even going over medical procedures. You need to sharpen that blade. No one wants an incompetent firefighter on scene.
3.) We all know the stereotypes. Be present for your partner and family. The best support group comes from your love ones at home. Sometimes burn out happens, but you still have to be present and live life with your family. As much as I love the job, my family comes first. They will be there for you, but you need to be there for them.

Praised be to Christ. One of the greatest blessings we could give our marriage was to have it rooted in the apostolic faith through the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony by the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I could name off so many ancient church fathers and other books, pastoral readings and homilies but I find these books to be the most palpable for any Christian to pick up and read. These books in particular have really help me not only reinforce on what I know on my faith but also have taught me new theological principles that have deepen my relationship and my walk with Christ.
