Almost a year ago today, my brother came home after 23 years of incarceration. Being able to celebrate his birthday/Milestone with him is a gift one that still feels bittersweet. Our family carried a lot during those years: constant transfers that made visits hard, the ever present violence, the loss of friends and family, and experiences he may never put into words. Life kept moving forward while he remained in a place of uncertainty. I share this not for sympathy, but to honor the resilience it takes to survive and to acknowledge how essential real support truly is. Today, he’s not just home. He’s thriving. And that deserves to be celebrated. To everyone who has shown up for me and my family in any way, thank you. It has meant more than I can properly express. I picked this picture because it’s honest. Me loud. Them unbothered. ☺️ But very clear  I don’t play about my Mothers sons. Ever! So here’s what I ask:
One if you have someone behind the wall, check on them. Don’t assume they’re “used to it.” They’re not. They need you. Two Help Wish my brother a happy birthday🎉🎉 Happy Birthday to the boy who became a man in an unforgiving justice system.
Happy Birthday to the boy who never lost hope.
