Acoustic bodies outline, juxtapose, and mirror electronic gestures of solo improvisers during the 3-day event of the Exchanges series 🔄

🗓️ 23.09 🕢 19:30

✧ Jakob Riis’s sounds from analogue, digital and acoustic sources unfold in an improvisational exploration of the structures and spatial dimensions of sound, striving to create openings for both physical and mental resonance.

✧ Kris Kuldkepp’s “Curious Currents / A Variation” presents a microsection of the moving currents that compose the audible and for the human ear inaudible sonic space in and around Kintai, Lithuania. Those are transformed into a poetic sonic space, using modular synthesizer and DIY instruments.

✧ Lotte Anker works in the field between improvisation, experimental jazz, and contemporary composed music. Interested in the dynamics between ‘free’ improvisation and compositional practices, with an emphasis on exploring the manifold qualities in sound material, space and temporality.

🗓️ 24.09 🕕 18:00

Workshop by Lotte Anker covering improvisation as a practice, its dynamics with composition and ways to explore sound material, texture and structure, noise and silence, interaction, forms of listening, freedom and discipline ➡️ registration required, link in bio

🗓️ 25.09 🕢 19:30

✧ Chi Him Chik’s uses the body of the performer as a medium to present and interpret the idea of presence. Chi Him Chik works across sound, light and spatial media, creating immersive experiences that investigate psychological and perceptual phenomena.

✧ Jan Wegmann’s Krater 2 combines a custom modular synthesizer system with intimate field recordings and visuals. Using a synthesizer case with built-in speakers, it functions as an instrument body, allowing a blend of electronic textures and acoustic resonances.

✧ NNIS has gathered an archive of field recordings and found objects during his time in Asia. Those will be recontextualized through repetition, layering and gradual transformation creating slowly evolving structures that draw on ambient, drone and electroacoustic approaches.

Urban Fragments: A Soundwalk, Workshop & Performance
16 August 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined Urban Fragments and helped shape the day through walking, listening, gathering, exchanging, and improvising together.
The soundwalk moved from Bangkok Kunsthalle area through Talat Noi and the Charoen Krung riverside, passing through a cityscape layered with traffic, voices, machinery, alleys, buildings, and the river. Within this shifting environment, listening became a practice of moving attention, while hearing remains open to what surrounds us; listening lets focus travel between what is near and distant, dense and faint, continuous and fleeting. As attention moved, the city was encountered differently through perception, memory, sensation, and thought.

These encounters were carried back into the workshop through recordings, objects, and observations, then shared, layered, rearranged, and transformed together. The final improvisation extended the same process, allowing collected sounds, responses, participants, artists, and the surrounding cityscape to meet within an evolving sonic field.

Through these temporary relations, ppp took shape between people, attention, sound, and place.

Bangkok Kunsthalle provided the space and context for this experience to unfold, while the openness, curiosity, and presence of everyone who joined gave Urban Fragments the form it became.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the “Urban Fragments: a Soundwalk, Workshop & Performance” workshop last Sunday, 16 August 2026.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Jakob Sinn and Watsaphol Suwannasaksin for leading all participants on a journey to collect sound materials through the soundscape of Yaowarat and the surrounding areas of Bangkok Kunsthalle. These sounds were then transformed into an improvised, site-specific musical performance, allowing sounds from different sources to tell their stories through the sound collectors and the context of the place.

Bangkok Kunsthalle would like to thank the artists of ppp, as well as all participants and everyone involved in making this event possible, for coming together to create this memorable soundwalk experience.

Some impressions from my performance »Future Remains: Field Notes« at @taipeiartistvillage three weeks ago.

Utilizing field recordings gathered from both the historic coal-mining sites of northern Taiwan and the high-tech regions shaped by the semiconductor industry, I created a dialogue between natural and industrial environments, weaving together different temporal layers and visions of the future.

NNIS

NNIS is the moniker that German interdisciplinary artist Jakob Sinn uses for his sound works. Coming from a background in drumming, he has also been active as an experimental sound artist for several years. In his largely improvised performances, he works primarily with field recordings and found objects, which often establish a contextual relationship to the respective site. Parts of the drum set may also be used, though rarely as a conventional percussion instrument, but rather as a source of timbre and frequency.

Moving between acoustic and electronic sound, his practice draws on ambient, drone, and electroacoustic music. Through repetition, layered textures, and slowly evolving structures, his performances often create a trance-like quality. He has presented his work in live performances in Germany, Japan, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Join us for "Urban Fragments: a Soundwalk, Workshop & Performance", led by Jakob Sinn and Watsaphol Suwannasaksin on Sunday, 16 August 2026, 12 - 5 PM.

Sitting at a dynamic urban crossroads in Yaowarat, Bangkok Kunsthalle is surrounded by dense layers of sound, movement, and activity. This event proposes a way to attune with that environment, turning the city's acoustic texture into shared creative material.

Participants are invited to re-perceive the neighborhood through a guided sound walk. Along the way, they'll collect sonic fragments, field recordings, and small objects, which will later be woven into a live improvised sound performance by the two artists.

The workshop takes place in two parts. First, a soundwalk for collecting, listening, and sharing. Then, a hands-on session with provided audio equipment, where participants' recordings and objects are brought together into material for the evening's performance by the two artists.

For this project, Jakob and Watsaphol come together as ppp, a loosely structured collective initiated by Watsaphol that shifts between singular and plural through its collaborators, participants, and site.

Schedule
 • 12 - 2 PM Introduction and Soundwalk
 • 2 - 2:45 PM Break
 • 2:45 - 4 PM Discussion & Hands-on
 • 4 - 4:20 PM Short Break
 • 4:20 - 5 PM Performance
Participation is limited to 10 people. Registration required, link in bio. Please bring a field recorder and headphones if available. Otherwise, just bring a smartphone and headphones. taken in Bangkok Kunsthalle by @_nn.is_
