One thing about me, I will always show up for myself and the vision I have for my life. Whether it’s stepping into new spaces, connecting with other creatives, or exploring opportunities outside of my comfort zone, I’m intentional about the experiences I choose to be part of. Building something of your own requires you to believe in what you’re creating, even when you can’t see the full picture just yet. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you have to be willing to put yourself in the room OR go the extra mile and create your own. Here’s to making connections, embracing new experiences, and continuing to create a life that feels like my own. Always betting on myself. The odds are in my favor. ♠️ Congrats to @_stormyblue on hosting her first Creative & Business Mixer! 🥂💐 Love seeing creatives bring their visions to life and create spaces for others to connect. Now, for anyone who has never experienced NYFW, here’s a little insight into how it all works. First, you don’t necessarily have to be a celebrity or have a massive following to attend. You can reach out to designers and PR agencies to request invitations, get added to guest lists, or attend as someone’s +1, which is how I experienced my first NYFW! And since one of the most asked questions was how much it costs, many runway shows are free if you’re on the guest list! However, some events do sell tickets to the public. Depending on how you attend, your biggest expenses may actually be travel, accommodations, transportation, and everything else you decide to do while you’re there. And here’s something else you might not know: runway shows are SHORT! They often last around 10–20 minutes, although the entire experience can take longer between checking in, finding your seat, and waiting for the show to begin. But Fashion Week extends far beyond the runway. There are pop-ups, brand activations, presentations, networking events, and experiences happening throughout the city. Some require an invitation or RSVP, while others are open to the public. And sometimes, the best experiences aren’t even on your original itinerary. It’s one thing to admire fashion through a screen. It’s another to experience it in person. I’m already looking forward to the next one ☺️ That’s a wrap on my first NYFW Diaries! 🖤 #nyfw #nyfw2026 by @_onlyjuan
Finding somewhere to stay for my first NYFW was a whole assignment of its own. 😂 A friend recommended staying in Midtown, so that gave me a starting point. From there, I had a few things to consider: location, budget, aesthetics, and most importantly, somewhere I could comfortably get dressed. One thing I learned during the planning process is that location matters, especially when your schedule isn’t set in stone. Fashion Week shows are held at different venues throughout the city, and invitations or pop-up events can come together at the last minute. My advice? Choose a location that gives you flexibility. Consider transportation, how easily you can get around the city, and whether you’ll need to return to your hotel for outfit changes between events. I ended up choosing @kimptonera ,near Rockefeller Center, and I loved having a little home base in the middle of all the Fashion Week chaos. The concierge team was also attentive, checking in throughout my stay to make sure everything was going well. It was those little touches that made me feel genuinely taken care of. Another thing worth considering is the room itself. Beyond the aesthetics, think about how you’ll actually use the space. We all know NYC hotel rooms can be a bit small, so is there enough room to organize your outfits? What about good lighting for getting ready and capturing BTS content? And of course, leave it to me to be worried about having enough hangers for my clothes. 😂 Anyway, here’s a little peek at where I stayed during my first NYFW. @kimpton @ihghotels #nyfw #nyfw2026 #nychotels by @_onlyjuan
My season just happens to start the best dressed season ♎️🍂 This dress was actually in the lineup for NYFW, and I’m glad I waited to wear it because the bob needed to activate. 😂 The right hairstyle can completely change what a look is giving. Sometimes an outfit needs the softness of a curl, sometimes it needs the drama of a buss down middle part, and sometimes it needs the structure of a bob to let the clothes do what they’re supposed to do. The neckline, the shoulders, the proportions, the overall silhouette… it all matters. And this dress? She needed a bob. 💁🏾‍♀️ Hair by @hairista P.S. A Black dad and his daughter’s hair… This is my third time whacking it off. 😂 Between me and @timala.zip , he’s had enough! Now I gotta make sure I keep this bob intact before he starts asking, “What’s going on wit yo head?” 😭 Because you know how bobs get…stiff at the nape of the neck, don’t move no more. Just stuck and greasy. 😂 P.S. Y’all heard my dad! As you get older, your hair doesn’t grow as fast. So to the men hanging on by a thread, this your sign to cut if off 😂 Anyways, y’all think I’m done? by @_onlyjuan
Since this was my first time navigating NYFW, I wanted to be comfortable AND fly. The last thing I needed was a wardrobe malfunction while trying to figure out where I was going. 😂 And when it comes to getting dressed, it’s never just about the individual pieces for me. It’s about how everything works together. The textures, the shapes, the prints, the colors, the proportions… ALL OF IT. Sometimes the smallest styling decision makes the biggest difference. And if there’s one thing I love just as much as putting a look together, it’s explaining WHY it works. So let’s get into what I wore to my first NYFW and the thought process behind each look. Because the outfit is one thing. The STYLING is another. 💁🏾‍♀️ #nyfw #nyfw2026 #personalstyle #stylingtips by @_onlyjuan
Dear Diary, Okay, let’s actually talk about NYFW because I feel like I posted the looks and never really talked about the EXPERIENCE. 😂 This was my first New York Fashion Week and surprisingly, I wasn’t nervous. Like… at all. I thought I would walk into these rooms and feel like I needed to prove that I belonged there, but it was the complete opposite. I felt comfortable. I felt inspired. I felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Of course there were shows, outfits, running around New York thinking I could do outfit changes like I’m on the runway 😂, meeting people, and trying to capture content in between it all. But beyond that, NYFW gave me a little glimpse of what I want more of for myself. So since y’all said you wanted the details, we’re getting into it. The experience, the looks, what I packed, how much I spent, and all the things I learned my first time. But first, come with me to my first NYFW. 🥹✨ Dear Diary, we made it. #nyfw by @_onlyjuan
Summer ‘26 I had a bucket list of all the things I wanted to do and somehow did everything except what was actually on the list. I’m still trying to figure out how I missed the Jay-Z concert. 😂 Nonetheless, summer was good to me. Dear Diary, Pinch me neowwww… If you would’ve told me that two girls nominated as Best Dressed at Heritage would end up here… one wearing the other’s brand at NYFW, sitting in the room of a designer whose work has been worn by some icons… I would’ve said… honestly, I don’t know what I would’ve said lol. Would there have been some hesitation? Absolutely. But is the story really that far off? Not at all. To my friend @tee.viscera, I’m so proud of you. When I confirmed I was going to NYFW, you were the first person who came to mind. I knew I wanted to wear something created by you and bring a piece of home with me. I know you don’t always see yourself as a designer 🙄😂, but you are. You have an eye, a gift, and a perspective that is uniquely yours. I hope you know how talented you are, how much your eye matters, and how much space you deserve to take up. Keep creating. Keep trusting your gift. Keep going, even when you don’t fully see what I see. You are needed. I’m so honored that I get to witness EVERY chapter of @officialviscera.co while also living out one of my own. This one was for both of us and all the 757 girls ❤️ Love, Shajuanna #nyfw #ootd @off____white S/S ‘20 by @_onlyjuan
Dear Diary, I went to New York Fashion Week. My first one. ✨ And I got to experience it with @athenaburgueno 😊 If I could give myself a little advice before this trip, it would be this: Don’t wait until you feel like you’re ready. Are we ever truly ready for anything? Even when you do feel ready, life somehow throws a curveball. Go. Wear the outfit. Take the photo. Introduce yourself. Sit in the room. Walk into the space confidently, even if you don’t know exactly where this is going to take you. Because sometimes the only difference between “I want to be there” and “I’m there” is deciding to show up. Stop waiting for permission. You might be more ready than you think. Love, Shajuanna 🫶🏾 P.S.
