Most rebrands fail before design even starts because founders skip straight to "what should our brand look like?"

Here's the sequence that actually works:

๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐Ÿญ : ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ
The priority phase. Before any logo or visual direction, the work is ruling out industry clicheฬs, competitor look-alikes, and generic trends so your brand doesn't blend into your category.

Only once the "don'ts" are eliminated does a real direction for your brand identity emerge.

If you're a founder about to invest in a brand identity or rebrand, this is the research your designer should be doing before you see a single concept.

Save this before your next branding conversation.

Sketch wide, narrow with intent.
Choose type the brand needs, not type I like.
Rank colour by dominance, not by what looks nice together.

This is the process behind every identity I build, a peek into how Fine Craft (a concept design) came together, one decision at a time.

Most founders think branding = logo. It's not even close.

A brand book is the actual document that keeps your brand consistent once more than one person touches it, your designer, a new hire, an agency, a print vendor. Without it, every touchpoint drifts a little further from what you originally built.

Here's what's actually inside one:

โ†’ Logo variations, clear space, and misuse rules
โ†’ Colour palette with exact codes (not "the blue from the website")
โ†’ Typography system for headings, body, and digital use
โ†’ Brand voice and tone guidelines
โ†’ Imagery and iconography style
โ†’ Real application examples i.e. business cards, social templates, packaging

The logo is one asset. The brand book is the system that makes sure that asset (and everything around it) stays recognizable as your business scales.

If you're growing past a one-person operation, this is the document that protects your brand before things get inconsistent.

What Happens When You Outgrow Your Logo

Your business isn't the same one that made this logo. So why is the logo?

Outgrowing your first logo isn't a mistake, it's a sign you've grown.
Most businesses design their first logo on a tight budget, before they know exactly who their customers are or where the business is headed.

A few years in, the business has evolved: new services, a clearer audience, a bigger vision, but the logo is frozen at day one. That's not a failure on your part. It's just timing.

The problem isn't the old logo itself, it's what it signals now. A logo that doesn't match your current business can quietly undersell you, making a more established, more capable business look smaller than it actually is.

I help growing businesses update their look to match where they actually are now, not where they started.

If you've been feeling this, DM me and let's talk about what an update could look like.

Save this if you've outgrown your logo and just haven't said it out loud yet. ๐Ÿ”–

Brand identity design for @trylo_op :

A personal brand for a YouTube educator teaching programming languages.

The name TryLoop comes straight from how code actually works i.e. iteration, repetition, trying until it runs clean.
That idea shaped the whole identity: a tech-forward mark built to feel modern and approachable, made for someone teaching coding to an audience learning from scratch.

Not every brand problem needs a full rebuild.

If your brand feels off, the instinct is to assume you need to start from scratch i.e. new logo, new name, the whole thing. But most of the time, that's not the fix.

Sometimes it's a refresh: tightening your colours, cleaning up your fonts, making your visuals consistent across posts.
And sometimes it's not even a design problem, it's just that nothing's been applied properly yet.

This isn't about talking you into the bigger, more expensive option. It's about spending correctly, not spending more. A refresh that solves the actual problem is worth more than a full rebrand you didn't need.

I help business owners figure out exactly what level of investment their brand actually needs before we touch a single design file.

Not sure which one fits you? DM me and I'll help you figure it out.

Concept project: Iron Ward

A fictional strength training studio identity I designed as a branding exercise.

The name itself carries the weight I wanted, "iron" for the discipline of the work, "ward" for protection, resilience, something built to hold.
I anchored the mark around a lion, paired with scar-like linework running through it; strength that's been tested, not just claimed.

The scars aren't damage, they're proof: the mark of training that's actually been through something.

Placed the identity on a long horizontal billboard format to see how it reads at scale and distance. Strength brands live or die on presence, so testing it as out-of-home signage felt like the right stress test for the mark. by @_ophyrs_

Why Customers Judge You in 0.05 Seconds ?

Before anyone reads your pitch, they've already judged your business.

Research shows people form a first impression in about 50 milliseconds, faster than you can finish a sentence. That's not enough time to read your "About" page, your reviews, or your pricing.
It's just enough time to see your logo, your colours, your feed, your website and decide, instantly, whether you look legit.

That snap judgment isn't a small thing. It's the difference between someone scrolling past and someone stopping to book a call. Between a customer questioning your price and one who never thinks to.
A weak first impression means you're fighting an uphill battle before you've said a single word i.e. no pitch, no discount, no follow-up message can fully undo it.

I design brand systems that build trust the second someone sees them, no pitch required.

Want a second opinion on your first impression? Send me a DM.

Concept project: Vantage

A fictional fashion boutique brand identity.

The starting point was the name itself, a vantage point means seeing further, seeing first, standing at an angle others miss. I wanted the mark to carry that literally, so the identity centers on a sharp, compass-like star with an eye at its core (perspective made visual). Twelve points radiating outward, anchored by a single gaze at the center.

Colour was where I pushed further than a typical "quiet luxury" boutique brief; ink blue, emerald, and charcoal together, instead of the usual black-white-gold luxury default. It's a deliberate move toward bold and graphic over restrained, because the brand needed to stand apart the way its name suggests.

The wordmark carries a clean sans-serif, set wide, to hold its own against a mark that strong. And per the brief, "By Farah & Team" sits below it used as a required credit line I treated as a tagline tier rather than a second logo, keeping the hierarchy clear.

Mocked up across a shopping bag, tote, and storefront signage in a Paris setting to test how the identity holds up in real retail contexts.

The $35 Logo Trap ๐Ÿชค

Cheap branding isn't a deal. It's a delay.

Here's how the "quick logo" purchase usually plays out : you grab something cheap, use it for six months, then realize it doesn't scale, doesn't work in black & white, and has no editable files behind it.
So you end up paying a brand identity designer (hi ๐Ÿ‘‹) to redo the whole thing from scratch, except now you're also paying for the rebrand confusion it caused your customers.

You didn't save money on your logo design. You just delayed the real cost.

Every project I deliver comes with full source files and documentation, so you never have to start from zero again.

๐Ÿ“Œ Tag a business owner who needs to see this before their next "quick logo" purchase.

Another concept exploration : Fine Craft,

A fictional invite-only art gallery I designed as a branding exercise.

The idea : Every object carries the mark of its making i.e. rare vinyl, hand-bound prints, things chosen for the craft behind them, not just what they are.

I wanted the identity to feel refined and a little mysterious, like something you'd only hear about through the right people.
Logo, palette, typography, all built around restraint and gallery-grade minimalism.

Your Logo Isn't Your Brand

You didn't hire a logo. You hired a first impression.

Here's the mix-up almost every business makes early on: they think "getting a logo" means "getting branded." It doesn't.

A logo is one mark. Your brand is everything : your colours, your type, your tone, your packaging, your social posts, your business card, the way your invoice looks.
If only one of those pieces is designed and the rest is guesswork, your brand doesn't feel like one business. It feels like five different people took turns building it.

That gap is where trust leaks out. A customer might not be able to say why a brand feels "off," but they feel it, mismatched fonts, colours that shift from post to post, a logo that doesn't fit anywhere else it's placed. It reads as unfinished, even if the logo itself is great.

I build full identity systems, not just logo files, so everything you put out looks like it belongs to the same business. Logo, color palette, typography, templates, the whole toolkit. One system, applied everywhere.

Save this for when you're ready to stop patching your brand together.
