I have been living in California for a little over a month now. Los Angeles is already opening my world to the understanding that the sky is actually not the limit. The truth is: there is no limit.

But, before I charge forward, I must look back and acknowledge how beautiful my last few months living in Louisville, KY were.

At the end of April, @thejesselees and I opened for @mymorningjacket at the most gorgeous and legendary venue in all of Louisville: the iconic @louisvillepalace. And on @removador and @patrickthallahan’s shared birthday no less!

That show came at the end of a month-long series of intimate house shows that I hosted with @thespacecampaign in support of my album One Beautiful Something. I can’t wait to share it with you. The images from the house shows are from footage captured at the first show, which happened to fall on my birthday!

In between shows and preparing to move, I was finding any spare time to meet up with @twjohns and capture shots for a music video to the album’s opening track. It was a such a wonderful experience that culminated in some friends, new and old, rallying around to complete the vision on the last day of shooting. (Can you tell which film is being referenced from the stills? 😉)

My final show in Louisville was with @thejesselees at one of my all-time favorite Louisville venues: @headlinersmusichall. I have seen and performed some of my favorite shows on that stage. It was where I saw my very first concert!

I couldn’t be more grateful for my years spent as a local artist in Louisville, and I can’t wait to see what the west coast has in store for me.

Play music with people who look at you like I look at @stratocaseypowell 😍 I thoroughly enjoyed celebrating this guy’s birthday last weekend alongside some very fine artists who also happen to be friends of his!

I’m almost finished making my first proper solo project, and he convinced me to play one of the new songs at the show. I didn’t plan on performing any of it for a while, but it was really beautiful to share a piece with the people who were there. So, thank you, Casey! I can’t wait to share the rest.

Do the world a favor and LOVE YOURSELF. It sounds selfish at first, but there is no greater gift you can give than showing up at your best.

Truly loving yourself is more than just saying, “I love myself.” (but it can start there!) As it becomes more true, it becomes a daily practice and a constant commitment to being honest with yourself and moving accordingly. Self love comes with sacrifices, discomfort, and fear, but also growth, confidence, peace, and pleasure. It comes with hard decisions and leaps of faith, but their value is irreplaceable.

I have been hearing a saying recently (I don’t know where it originated) that says, “Never underestimate the amount of people suffering because of your procrastination.” The effect and influence of your greatness can only improve the world.

I’m talking to you, and I’m talking to me, too. I love you!

Love yourself, and have a photo shoot on your front porch 😁

2024 did not arrive with the smoothest landing for me. It has already been filled with lessons and wake up calls that require me to contemplate my morals, values, limits, priorities, and my health.

But, I am learning to be welcoming of challenges; they show you who you truly are, and you can come out the other side a more fully realized version of yourself. I try to remember in moments of overwhelming sadness, exhaustion, or frustration that it is a privilege to experience the pain of growth. I trust that if I continue to consistently show up for myself, that I will find ease where I currently find complication.

I have found myself in an unexpected, but necessary, period of shadow work. I stayed up late last night taking these portraits, feeling hopeful that I can find beauty and strength in working with my shadow self. by @_otisjunior
