1 in 5 children in England have a probable mental health condition. Yet far too many are still not getting early and easy access to the support they need. Children’s mental health should be at the top of the new Prime Minister’s to-do list: he should make an investment in childhood, so no child faces mental health problems alone. This means prioritising expert, embedded and timely mental health provision in schools, ensuring that every child can access the right support at the right time and can thrive. This model can improve mental health and engagement with learning; reduce suspensions and the likelihood of persistent absence; and improve children’s sense of belonging in school. In the long-term, improvements are sustained over time and lead to improved GCSE grades, higher wages and an economic boost worth £51 billion. To celebrate this year's Pride Month, our wonderful Place2Be Ambassador @joshsmithhosts visited a secondary school in London. 💛Delivering an assembly he needed as a teenager, Josh spoke about the importance of Pride and embracing your authentic self! 🌈It was an inspiring morning spent with students, hearing their thoughts on what helps them feel accepted, supported and able to stay true to themselves both at school and in their communities.Every young person deserves to feel safe, seen and valued.
