A little history—Ayo Nish!, tomorrow’s guest for “Leading with Artivism,” and I met a decade ago on a Hip Hop Tour. It was a blast and forged a creative friendship that has led to many projects together through the years.

Ayo Nish! is an artist and cultural architect whose work lives at the intersection of music, storytelling, and community.

I hope you can join us tomorrow, in person, to learn more about this dynamic creative. You can attend in person at @artsmidhudson or watch live on YouTube.

In the meantime, enjoy this throwback from the video shoot for Nish’s track, “Different Type of Different” (DTOD).

Thank you for being a part of the joy.

On Wednesday, September 16th, a bridge was built through the arts between Marist University and the surrounding cities of the Hudson Valley.

Thanks to the vision of @aundreamatthews and her supporting team—including Marist Community Artists Alliance, @maristcommunitybelonging , School of Communication and The Arts, The Professional Community Committee, selected Residency Artists, showcase artists, and their friends and families, as well as a host of Marist student volunteers —the inaugural event, Level Up Live @lvluplive was a roaring success.

We are just getting started. See you next month on October 21st with your host, Marist’s very own @kaylamjlove

Behind the scenes, I will be in the room assisting and cheering you on to Level Up Live! 🫶

Follow the new page @lvl.uplive for photos, updates, and more.

NEXT UP …

Level Up Live @lvl.uplive is a new experiential learning opportunity at Marist University meant to help students gain hands-on experience while also giving musical artists within the local community a chance to build their platform and showcase their talent …

The program is led by the Marist Community Artist Alliance (MCAA), which includes a team of faculty, staff, and community members with knowledge of the arts and the entertainment industry.

We encourage ALL within the Marist Community to come together for our monthly Level Up Live showcases featuring talented artists from the Hudson Valley and performers from the Marist community. This is an opportunity to experience great music, support emerging artists both on and off campus.

Let’s meet and greet the selected residency artists and all those participating in the Open Mic. It’s time LEVEL UP!!!

What a wonderful and creative day at the @thepollinatorpk

Participated in a free quilt sewing workshop and learned how to sew square blocks. Workshop led by Anita Jones with the Mid-Hudson Antislavery History Project.

Living with Gratitude. Living with Purpose. Living with Love.

Ran into one of the pollinator visionaries @suprinasculpture

Bravo to you all!👏👏👏

My quilt square patch, I selected Samuel Ringgold Ward to add to my patch.

Mr. Ward was a leading Black Abolitionist who taught at Poughkeepsie’s Lancaster School for Black children. The address for the former school was 189 Church which is now a local cafe and performance venue.

I facilitated my “DREAM Out Loud” poetry workshop to a wonderful group of participants. Wait until you hear their collaborative poem, in the next post. 😊

Poetry workshop - It was a vibe.

Shout out to all of workshop leaders at the @thepollinatorpk

Drop by Sunday, Sept. 13th for the second day of art engagement.

The DREAM OUT LOUD/Be The Poem workshop is scheduled for 3 pm.
