To the love of my life
I’m trying so hard to keep it together but…Today my heartbreaks as I have to say goodbye to you but I know your heart is at rest, and you’re at peace with the one you taught me so much about. My relationship with God truly comes from you, Grandma I saw and know God through you! You were the first person to teach me how to pray. I don’t always have to be on my knees I can pray in the car, on a plane, the shower, in class, wherever. I can show up as myself and be heard. You heard me,you listened to me, and you made me feel SEEN. You never made me feel like my perspective or the things I shared with you were small, instead you met me where I was and gave me wisdom and somehow uplifted me all at the same time. (Ok superwoman!) You are my first experience of true unconditional love and my very first best friend , truly my ROD . She’d say me and Kay could’ve committed a murder or robbed a bank and she’d bail us out, no questions asked. Lol Now if it was thunder storming she’d say , turn everything off and unplug all electronics and be still… don’t say a word. Why?! Bc God was at work lol. Through the storms of my adulthood I’ve kept that same mantra, to be still while I’m going through it bc God is working on my behalf. Sometimes mommy also has to remind of this, when I get frustrated and impatient. OH wait …This my new fave too “when you send something in the mail can you go back and check on it at the mailbox? No, stop sending the same prayer to God, have faith that God is working on said prayer!

Grandma Thank you so much for teaching me to have a relationship with God, to be assertive, kind , independent, resilient, reliable and true. The Black Woman you were, the presence you exuded…that sit up straight, come correct when addressing me, no nonsense aura. Whew! A Force to be reckoned with and that girl! I pray that I grow to be at least half the woman you were. I love you more than anything and I’d choose you in any life , world, dimension, whatever it is. Save a spot for me right next to you my love, see you later.
