WHO ARE YOU WHEN NOBODY NEEDS ANYTHING FROM YOU? 💭

Sometimes we become so focused on fulfilling our responsibilities that we forget to nurture the person behind them.

The provider.
The parent.
The leader.
The person everyone depends on.

But who are you outside of those expectations?

What brings you happiness? What gives you peace? What dreams are you pursuing for yourself?

Your identity is bigger than the roles you fulfill for other people.

Your value isn’t determined solely by what you can provide.

Don’t lose yourself while trying to be everything for everybody.

Make It Work.

NOT EVERYTHING IS YOURS TO CARRY. 🎯

Being responsible doesn’t mean being responsible for everything.

Sometimes we take on more than we should because we don’t want to disappoint the people who depend on us.

But there’s a difference between being dependable and allowing every responsibility to become your burden.

Learning when to say no, when to ask for help, and when to establish boundaries is part of growing.

Just because you’re capable of carrying something doesn’t mean you have to carry it alone.

Protect your peace while honoring your responsibilities.

Make It Work.

EVEN THE STRONGEST PEOPLE GET TIRED. 💭

Strength isn’t measured by how much pain you can hide or how many responsibilities you can carry without asking for help.

Sometimes the strongest people are the ones silently dealing with battles nobody knows about.

I’m learning that acknowledging exhaustion doesn’t mean you’re giving up.

It means recognizing that you’re human.

You can be strong and still need support.

Don’t let the expectation of always being strong prevent you from taking care of yourself.

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FIND THE LIGHT FROM THE DARKEST PLACES. 🌌

“Late hours after dark,
From the abyss I see the stars…”

For the final part of today’s Lyric Breakdown, we’re exploring imagery and contrast within my newest release, “The Soldier.”

The abyss represents darkness and uncertainty, while the stars suggest something beyond those circumstances.

Then I follow with:

“A dream I claim to be,
Inside a nightmare of the plot.”

Two opposing ideas existing within the same experience.

A dream surrounded by a nightmare. Hope existing within uncertainty.

That’s how imagery allows us to communicate emotions without directly explaining every feeling.

Sometimes the picture tells the story before the words explain it.

WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. 🕷️🎙️

“Father stretch my hands from the clouds, send direction down…”

Sometimes the deepest lyrics are the ones carrying multiple meanings.

In “The Soldier,” I explore the relationship between seeking guidance and being responsible for others.

The references to fatherhood, direction, power, and responsibility create different layers within the writing.

But underneath those words is a deeper question:

What happens when everyone depends on someone who’s still trying to find his own way?

That’s the beauty of intentional songwriting. A single passage can communicate several ideas simultaneously.

EVEN THE STRONGEST REACH A BREAKING POINT. 🪖🎙️

“The soldier you have given more than I could handle now…”

For today’s Lyric Breakdown, I’m taking you inside my newest release, “The Soldier.”

This record explores the emotional weight of responsibility, the pressure to remain strong, and the moments when you begin questioning how much more you can carry.

Sometimes emotional writing isn’t about explaining how you feel.

It’s about allowing the listener to experience the weight of those emotions through your words.

Strength doesn’t mean you never struggle.

THE SOLDIER — OUT NOW. 🪖🎹

Every soldier has a story.

Some battles are fought in plain sight, while others are carried silently within us.

“The Soldier” is a reflection of strength, vulnerability, perseverance, and the emotional weight of continuing to fight through life’s challenges.

Through spoken word, melody, and emotion, I wanted to create something that speaks to the battles we face and the resilience it takes to keep moving forward.

This record is another piece of my story as Prophetic Poet, and I’m grateful to finally share it with you.

🎧 “The Soldier” is available now on all streaming platforms.

RUN THE NIGHT VOL. 2 🏃🏾‍♂️🌃

Last night’s 5K on the Chicago lakefront was definitely one for the books. Great energy, great people and an unforgettable atmosphere from the warmup to the finish.

Life outside the music still inspires the music. I’m proud I showed up, challenged myself and enjoyed every moment of the experience.

More life. More movement. More memories. 💪🏾

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW? 💭

More money would help.
More resources would help.
More connections would help.
More opportunities would help.

But waiting until everything is perfect can keep you from using what’s already in your hands.

Start where you are.

Use what you have.

Learn as you go.

Then when more resources and opportunities come, you’ll already have something to build on.

That’s more than a slogan to me.

That’s what “Make It Work” means.

DON’T CONFUSE SLOW PROGRESS WITH NO PROGRESS.

Not everything you’re building is going to show immediate results.

Sometimes progress looks like improving your craft, making better decisions, building relationships, or simply understanding something today that you didn’t understand yesterday.

You might not be where you want to be yet.

But that doesn’t mean you haven’t moved.

Slow movement is still movement.

Keep building.

Make It Work.

CHANGING THE PLAN DOESN’T MEAN CHANGING THE GOAL. 🛣️

Sometimes the path you originally chose isn’t the path that’s going to get you there.

That doesn’t mean you failed.

You learned something. You gained information. Now you can adjust.

I’m learning that changing direction doesn’t always mean starting over.

Sometimes the adjustment is part of the journey.

Keep the goal. Adjust the route.

Make It Work.

WHEN SUMMER BECOMES MORE THAN A SEASON. ☀️🎙️

In “Summertime Chi,” summer starts literally—backyard barbecues, bikes, white Air 1s, candy, birthdays and days at the lake.

But as the record progresses, summer begins representing something bigger:

Youth. Freedom. Nostalgia. A time in life you can’t get back.

So when I say:

“Summertime Chi can’t stay no more…”

I’m not only talking about a season ending.

I’m talking about a chapter of life disappearing with it.

That’s the power of symbolism.

Make It Work.
