altar magick:

start with some basics. a quiet place where you can be alone to set intentions and reflect.

gather things that carry symbolism or intention for you: photos, pieces of nature, notes, herbs, flowers, food offerings, momentos, or souvenirs. you can add crystals and plants, feathers and heirlooms. pieces to represent each element or that represent elements in your birth chart. truly anything goes.

a little bit of behind the scenes lately ✨️

i spend a lot of time nurturing beauty and little lives in my home. i have one son who i could not have designed to be more of a magical human: justice-oriented, fierce in knowing and being himself, and well attuned to humor and deep connectivity with his people.

i lost my soul dog a couple of years back and went on a bit of a rescue bender in the years following as a way to process my grief. through the experience of taking in around a dozen fosters in the past 3ish years, we foster-failed our way to life with four great pyrenees in addition to our existing cocker spaniel. our current long-term foster makes five great pyrs, and he is living with a severe heart condition.

recently, we adopted two visually impaired kitten brothers as well. we have our hermann's tortoise, shelldon, who will most assuredly out-live me. and my newest special interest is in aquascaping a dreamy live-plant oasis for our betta fish and his new rabbit snail friend.

beyond all the little misfits we've taken in and loved, i fill our space with books, art, music, crystals, and plants. if you've read my work, you know i spend a lot of time thinking about the past, our ancestors, the ones to come, and everything we owe to our selves and one another: past, present, and future.

the world can be a harsh place, so here's to building our little sanctuaries so that we can be brave in the world. for ourselves, and for others, in all the little ways we can. taken in Chattanooga, Tennessee by @_purpose_poetry_
