With one of my painting series, Whisky.
I’ve been exploring whisky through color, texture, aroma, and the feeling that lingers after each sip. Each piece is my way of translating what I experience as somewhere between tasting and remembering.

Food and drink have always been a starting point for my work and a way to turn sensory experiences into something visual. by @_r.dam

This is my very first painting in 2016 and everything has begun. It came to me suddenly, a color spectrum that felt almost edible. “Jam” was both flavor and texture, while “Ethnic” carried the warmth and depth of cultures and moods. I’ve always loved a vintage tone, and it naturally became my palette. I painted without hesitation, as if these colors had always been in my mind. Every time I look at this work, it reminds me of the first pure passion that started it all.

Free monthly artwork in your inbox, sent on the first day of every month.

My work revolves around food, memory, and emotion.
Just as a meal becomes more layered through sharing, I wanted my artworks to be experienced in a similar way.

Starting this month, I’ll be sending one artwork every month through my mailing list.
Feel free to live with it and share it.
I like the idea that an artwork can quietly stay beside someone, like a small trace left after a meal.

If you’d like to join, you can sign up through the mailing list link in bio. Subscribers will also hear first about future works, gatherings, and releases.

I hope these works feel like something shared across a table🍽️ by @_r.dam

My art prints are now available through my website in two sizes, A4 and A3.
These prints are from Everyday Bite, an ongoing daily practice translating everyday emotions into oil pastel drawings, much like the way we experience food every day, one bite at a time.
I hope one of these finds a place in your everyday life, in your own way.
The original works are also available through Saatchi Art @saatchiart 😉 by @_r.dam

Six Meals, six different traces.

Meal is an ongoing series exploring how the experience of eating can become visual form.

I’m interested not only in what is on the plate, but in the colors, textures, gestures, and traces that gather around a meal, the things that remain after the food itself is gone.

A key element of the series is the use of cooking foil on canvas. Familiar yet unexpected, the reflective surface belongs naturally to the visual language of kitchens, dining, and shared meals.

When pistachio becomes material.

This work started with a simple question:
what if the character of pistachio could become part of the painting itself?
I wanted to bring in the materiality of the ingredient, the matte, earthy texture of pistachio shells and its natural muted green.

The shell carries something very familiar, a trace of eating, left behind after the food is gone.
I’ve focused on these small shifts when an ingredient moves from something we taste into something we can see and touch.

I’m so grateful to see my oil pastel drawings become part of Imperfect Utopia, a summer food book by @foodiest_bin_eumgong. Each page holds a little fragment of summer, and I love seeing my work bloom among these bright and peaceful summer moments.

This work visualizes the traces left on plates, normally invisible, repeatedly used during meals. Emotions and eating gestures embedded within shared dining experiences are translated into physical marks and textures on the surface.
The piece invites viewers to reconsider dining not simply as consumption, but as an accumulation of memory, intimacy, and emotional exchange.

Sometimes, a small piece of beauty hides in the most ordinary things.
For Meal, I found mine in cooking foil that a material made to wrap food, now catching light, texture, and the traces of a shared meal on canvas.
A small fragment of everyday life, worth looking at a little longer.
